He was an amateur at that time, possibly because he was unproven. One could argue he's still one now.
Before taking charge at Juve, Conte already had about 4 years coaching in Serie B. He lead 2 different sides to promotion. I would hardly call him an amateur when he joined Juve. The Serie B is pro isn't it? Someone like the current guy at Inter could be considered an amateur...he's only coached youth sides.

As for unproven...maybe...it's arguable. For me...leading 2 different sides to promotion isn't unproven, but I can see how someone might disagree. Unproven, doesn't mean amateur though. I think someone like Ranieri could be considered unproven.

4 years experience in Serie B doesn't mean anything when now he had to coach Juve. I'm sure you'd have loved it if we signed Albinoleffe's coach, wouldn't you? And how is it even arguable that he was unproven? He never managed a top club before.

So far he did excellent though, so the risk we took is paying off.

:agree:

Pretty much No-one predicted that Conte will be as good as he is right now (very few guys in this forum had "faith" in the guy being an ex-Juve captain).

If there is credit, it should be given to Andrea Agnelli for having real faith in Conte. Taking such a decision after finishing 7th twice in the league is a tough choice.

What tough choice? It was the only choice given the circumstances.
He could've picked :gsol: a safe option :gsol:

Someone who already is working in serie A, Someone like Delio Rossi.

But he took a chance on a serie B coach, I remember when he was hired everyone in the Italian Media and even in this forum thought it was a horrible decision (Ferrara all over again).
