At the moment Portugal is getting pretty forgotten. But like a classic italy, when they have to 'not lose' rather then "must win', the situation changes dramatically.
It's a disgrace that Portugal are still in the tournament. Haven't won a single game in 90 minutes, something that even eliminated teams like England, Albania, Hungary, Croatia, Turkey, Slovakia, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Switzerland have achieved.

No team in that Serie A was as strong as Germany though, even France.
France could be up for a shock if they play so uncohesive as they have been, and all of azzurri know their star guy very well.

Germany is a strong team, but are easely overrated. They are significantly lesser compared to two years ago.

Lahm is gone. Huge leader and experience, world class.
Schweinsteiger is in poor form and significant decay, finished.
Gotze is in poor form, removed to bench in favor of gomes cause it works better. fucking gomes.
Reus is injured again
Gundogan is whatever again
Draxler doesnt really impress

While this germany is terrific when allowed to play with Kroos, Ozil, Muller, Khedira, their main weakness is the lack of steel in the same midfield. The poland game showed pretty well how they suffer when pressed hard, because the workrate and coverage of their midfield is below par.

Italy has an entire midfield that runs 12 km/each game, and Giac who does 13. They can press them very hard and disrupt their game.

Kroatia would have made Germany suffer. Italy will make them suffer for 60-65 minutes. After which they need to be at least 1 goal up cause germany will score in the final 20.

I cant agree.

Portugal is a rather entertaining side who play very organised and create ALOT of chances. They however severely miss a centreforward to actually finish them off.
Just how many chances did they have each game to win ?

Now its different. They can rely on that great organisation, and counter with Ronaldo, Renato Sanchez and Nani.

Milan was, if not for that many injuries

Wut? Portugal entertaining? They had one entertaining game (3-3 vs a side we beat 4-0), but were also responsible for the worst game of the tournament (Croatia), have been very meh for the other games and still haven't even won a game.

Portugal has created the most chances from open play from any team in the group stage. But they have been so incredibly wastefull. its really baffeling how they managed to miss SO many chances.
Hungary scored one lucky strike, and two big deflections, where as Portugal missed about 5 must score chances, whilst still scoring 3 and stopping to play for the final 30 minutes.

Hungary was incredibly poor against Belgium. Sure, individual quality was very low, but Belgium played it standard attacking game, and Hungary failed at even remotely interrupting it, very poor indeed.

Portugal is entertaining because they create so many chances, and have 4 players (ronaldo, nani, quaresma, renato sanchez) who can produce beautifull magic.

Organised teams who are excellent at creating chances, while able to play very organised and got hands down the fastest offensive players in the tournament, are a nightmare to play against in the knockout. Portugal should now focus on sitting in organisation keeping it tight, interrupt opponent midfield play, and immediatly burst out when regaining possession.

Aside from kroatia and italy, no team is going to mirror their approach to block their counters. And in the end, Kroatia got what it deserved, oh so sadly.

of course it does.

why the hell would you even play Götze as lone striker? his "form" might be piss poor, but he can't be solely blamed for this tactical masterpiece.
Not blaming micropenis, just naming the quality of the germans and showcasing how it isnt the juggernaut from 2014.

...And even in 2014, Mascherano's midfield had the upperhand all game against them.

You like Ronaldo. That's okay.

But Portugal are not a nice team to watch. They're one of the worst. This Italian team has elevated defensive grinta to an artform, but Portugal does not even have that.

They have also been incredibly lucky so far. Helped by the tournament set up and lucked out against Croatia right before scoring, again, luckily, because no way that was a pass from Nani.

'incredibly lucky', is not conceding the goal that would knock you out of the groupstage on 3 occasions, 2 minutes before scoring yourself ;)

Sorry seven, if you call Portugal lucky, you didnt watch a single game. You cannot call a team lucky that has missed 10 absolute sitters in 3 games, and drew them as a result, whilst generating a lot of chances.

if Portugal was lucky, they'd easely topped the group.
