Ofcourse i agree thats what im saying , its about you seiing glass half empty and im seeing it half full , as in with the current players that we have considering our budget dont you think its just great to be where we have come in 3 years ? from being disrespected by other club fans to once again being called a top team in europe is an achievement . Im not saying this is the end , its actually the start the team with every transfer will improve and it has dont you think ? from matri and quag to tevez and llorente ? . I see our games , i see where you are coming from but try and understand we play possesion football ie play from the back we dont play direct as much unless we forced to because we dont have pace to play that kind of a game . To play fast direct football you need pace like even say roma has with gervinho , the best example is bayern from last year is what people loved fast attacking football but under pep the same players are playing tiki taka but you wont say pep is a tactical fool would you ?

In Serie A, yes. But it's a poor league and only the EL would make this season a success.

And we do have fast players, but due to our tactics, we tend to rarely make use of it due to our lethargic approach we showed.

Beeing cautious, should do the exact opposite. going full attack, leaving less defenders and more 1v1 situations, THAT exposes to individual mistakes, because 1 fuckup has a big chance to lead to a goal

Good point since we play as a team and organised team we cant let players go free that affects our game play , we just loose our formation thats why you see conte always screaming and shouting trying to organize the team .Maybe thats the italian game and i have also seen in italy defenders just dont give players space they are onto you unlike in spain or england , its more of man marking here and zonal marking in spain

Yeah, we might score some goals against teams that sit back in Serie A, but it is obvious that Lichty and Asamoah are hardly adept at creating chances. Neither can really cross, the former just drives to goal and the latter tries some step overs and the like, but it usually doesn't amount to much. Then once they are up the pitch and lose the ball, it automatically comes back to Barzagli or Chiellini, then the process starts over. For teams that sit back constantly, the two outside defenders actually become right or left backs, and we know how poor Chiellini is at that role.

If you want to make the argument that the 3-5-2 with our players is great defensively, fine. But don't say that have zero issues when we have the ball.

We could always try to find some better two-way wingers, but they are either expensive or hard to find. Even if we did, then some here would probably be too concerned with defensive capabilities that calls for Lichty and Asamoah to come back would be inevitable.

We'll see how the 3-5-2 works in Europe next year.

They have a diffrent playstyle. The italian teams you liked, are far behind us. Why even bother mentionning them

Offensively, it's really not that hard if we change formation.

Conte seeks transfer assurances

Antonio Conte’s future contract talks with Juventus reportedly hinge on the club’s activity in the coming transfer market.

The tactician’s current deal runs through to June 2015, but standing on the verge of a third consecutive League title and in the semi-finals of the Europa League, the club is eager to initiate talks to extend and further improve it.

Whilst Conte has refused to comment publicly on this speculation, Calciomercato.com report that he is waiting for assurances in the transfer market before opening negotiations.

Asamoah and Licht dont get enough credit on here. They create a LOT of our chances and are definitely effective in stretching defenses otherwise our CMs would have never been able to score that many goals unless they were all amazing dribblers (which they arent). The fact that Pogba consistently finds room to shoot from long distance and vidal consistently finds room to score or assist an incredible amount of goals despite both having plenty of defensive duties is evidence that Licht and Asa do stretch the defenses and create spaces for our CM's to exploit.

A defensive WBs' job (in order of priority) is first to make life easier for the CMs in the attacking phase simply by holding the ball upfront and passing it back to our midfielders and second to support the CMs and CBs defensively against countering wingers and third (ideally) to assist strikers or score goals.

An offensive WBs' job is largely the same only the 3rd task (assisting strikers and scoring goals) gets higher priority than the 2nd task (defensive support for Cbs).

In my opinion Licht and Asa perform all three tasks required of a defensive wingback successfully. Our CMs do have it easy as their stats show, we rarely concede as the stats again shows and the wingbacks have 6 goals and 10 assists between them which is not bad at all.


The problem is that Licht and Asa cant do this week-in week-out throughout an entire season. These guys play an awful lot of games and their role requires a lot of running to do. Asa played 45 games this season and Licht played 33 (and was injured for a long time).
These guys need good rotation players to substitute with. Whenever either of them is tired or injured or out of form or is out-performed by opposition we throw in the Islas and Pelusos of the world. What do these subs give us?

When we throw in Isla, he does create space for the midfield but his poor decision making and inability to make short passes makes him lose the ball very quickly and his poor defensive qualities leaves us exposed and he doesnt score or assist. In other words, he does the first and most important task of a WB (offensive or defensive) half assed because he gives the ball away in a matter of seconds, he doesnt protect the CMs and CBs defensively and he never creates any chances for the strikers and is inept in front of goal. As an offensive or defensive wing back he is poor and a liability

peluso on the other hand does better on the first task though not well enough either (lots of mispasses) and is decent defensively in covering the CMs and CBs and is worse than asa and licht in assisting strikers.

Again, life becomes very difficult for our CMs if the bloody wingbacks cant carry the ball upfront and pass it sideways to an advancing CM. Life also becomes very difficult for our CMs and CBs if the WB doesnt track back and protect them defensively. Our subs cant do either of that effectively and our starters suffer from fatigue and injuries. The drop in quality from our starting wingbacks to our substitute ones is huge.

More importantly, Asa will have the WC and the African Cups of Nations in the coming season. He will surely be burned if we don't get someone else on his position. Lulic is a decent upgrade over Peluso.

Our bad form in Europe was coincided by an equally bad run in Serie A. The poor concentration that kicked us out of CL was a general problem and not just specific to Europe. We all want to go far in Europe.. we know its not realistic to demand that we win the CL but we can certainly demand going past the group stage or even the last 16 and QFs if the draw wasnt terribly unlucky.
