I don't doubt that his approach in the locker room will be different; of course he hasn't thrown in the towel yet. But what can he achieve with these "mind games"? Will Bayern think that we've rolled over and give us an easier time because of it? To us fans it just sounds like ready made excuses in the event that we do go out. And though he will ask the players to give their all, comments like that sort of take the responsibility of these expectations away from them. I mean, it just will make it easier for them to accept defeat imo.
It's not like he's making up excuses though, is it? Everyone knows they're valid points.

Sure, Conte always reminding the fans & press where we came from is a bit annoying at times. But the fans & media always forgetting it in the first place is far more annoying to me personally.

I agree with Matt, those kinds of comments just seem unnecessary. They obviously won't make Bayern play worse. And who cares what the press says? No need to tell them we're going to "rape the nazi bastards" but keep it simple. Just say the game isn't over yet or something.
Everyone here, it seems.

RUS is the reason bullying was invented.
Better yet, RUS is the reason the internet was invented.

Come on, Buck. Don't come to Conte's aid all the time. Let's find moronic reasons to criticize him because he isn't perfect.

Fine, they may be valid points, but you don't concede those on the eve of an important match mind games or not. It's true that what the team has achieved in the span of two years is a great feat, but how long will it takes until we look at where we are at the moment rather than looking at what we were in the past?

It's satisfying to do the latter, it keeps away from entitlement and it sure is a great way to stay humble, but the reality is we've changed as a team.

See, the bolded part is very interesting. Depending on how you interpret it, it can mean entirely different things.
I'd say that a big part of our fans are not looking at where we are right now, but rather where we were in the past. The past meaning pre-Calciopoli.

Regardless, I've never been one to care much about press talk & I sure won't start now. The only thing I care about is what happens on the pitch. Which, of course, was an absolute disgrace last Tuesday :D

Why should it be forgotten?
Why should we constantly be reminded of it? Imagine you failed your first year in college, but then graduated with honors somehow. Would you like your dad constantly reminding you that only 4 years ago you were a complete failure? I think not ;)

In any case, Conte does have his flaws, but in this particular instant, the mind games might actually be useful. Deflect pressure off the squad in the meida a la Mourinho, while giving the lads self belief in training and the dressing room.

There's a difference between my dad who'd be busting my balls, and the coach who played a huge part in our "graduation".

I'd liked to be reminded of where I was 4 years ago, how much I achieved since then, and how much more I can achieve in the future.

Fair enough. I think the past is a useful guidance tool for the future, but I don't like to be constantly reminded of it.

Well, we should move on and look forward; that does not mean we should forget it of course. If we're constantly reminded of it, it just means we haven't done anything worthy of being equivalent. If we want to reach the next step as a team, imo we also need to acknowledge what we are and stop being scared of the pressure it carries. Great teams deal with pressure; it motivates them further in certain cases.

Sure, it's always good to understand the context behind a situation.
Yep, but at what point should we stop bringing that? At what point is it still relevant? And most importantly (it also is what Cheese implied I assume), is it okay to bring that up when disillusion occurs? When it's brought into that context, it just sounds like someone wants to rest on his laurels and have an excuse for underachieving.

Then why are you so often comparing our current attack with the one we used to have?

Sorry, I just couldn't resist :D
It's alright. A legitimate question. I long for some players of the past, but realize the impossibility of having such players now, unless we get tremendously lucky, or develop them ourselves :D

I guess it really depends on what context the past is utilized as a reference point for the future. Kind of like life really; sometimes you want to forget things you have done, but there are memories you wish to cherish :D

Durimg the two games with bayern we were presented with an exhibition of just what we need to step it up another level. Sadly the tactical aspect of our game was just as exposed as the individuals carrying it out. This is his first year in the chl so there are no grounds for panic just yet, but he needs to cut out tailoring our tactics to fit the opponent as a glove. Simply cannot play this formation against a system which overloads the wings, bayern had it easy during both games partially because of Conte.
