Apart from his history at the club, the fact that he doesn't play 3-5-2. And I don't necessarily mean as coach,but as a choice. It's a more progressive option IMO.

Some of the above I agree with, as will anyone who has suffered so horribly with the club these last two years, but some things I dissagree with...
Its impossible to say how a manager will fit a team if the opinion is based solely on previous results as a manager. Of course its important, a barometer of sorts...but the actual character of the manager is more important, to me, than his track record (unless his track record is 300 games, 250 losses..or something similarly atrocious). Character, charisma, passion, discipline, mentality...Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho...all have powerful characters, expressed in different ways. None of them seem to me, like nice guys, but nice guys generally win you fuck-all.
I like the mention of gasperini, and would prefer him over Conte, but I do not see Conte as the ferrara routine all over again. They are completely different men. A fair few people who seem at least, far from hugely despondent about conte's prospective arrival, likely base their opinion on conte's character.
even without having any control over transfers, delneri has failed miserably to cure the extremely consistent lack of spirit, desire, heart, determination, togetherness, team ethic which has now haunted us for two whole seasons. We very rarely have been capable of stringing more than 2 or 3 passes together. the movement has been terrible, especially after Quag's injury. We can't hold onto a lead, even at home in front of our own fans roaring us on to victory.
delneri, like ferrara, seems like a nice guy. a decent chap. Conte does not seem as obviously nice, he seems far more snarly and gnarly. There is an obvious fervour for success in his words and eyes. His main talents, in terms of character, DO seem to me, exactly what we have lacked. I cannot imagine Conte explaining that he is proud of the players, for their efforts, after a draw against catania.
As for our new manager been generally focused on 4-4-2...it makes perfect sense and should make transfers less troublesome. because the squad is (apparently) already set up for 4-4-2. unfortunately we have only one decent winger, when we should have at least 2 starting decent wingers, and 2 nearly as decent backups. The same can be said of the fullback positions. we have not one FB who i consider consistently quality. so I guess...perhaps we are not set-up for 4-4-2 afterall...although if we signed high quality RB,LB, LW...we would be. pouring quality into those dead areas could likely serve as a platform for a top 3 finish next season. 4-4-2 needs quality on the width. we have a decent central midfield, a solid CB area, wicked goalkeepers, and in matri, DP, Quag (plus one more hopefully) a solid front line.
I am not massively in favour of Conte, but am starting to accept that the Villa Boas, Deschamps, Van Gaal rumours, have no grounding in reality, so if its a choice between conte, gasperini, mazzari, delneri...i would be most pleased with gasperini, but not horrified by Conte.

Well said Lo-Pan, I doubt we can get VB, Deschamps, I would prefer Gasperini over the other italians, but I will not be horrified by Conte, I am horrified of the players he will get, if we don't sign champions, players with character and determination, I will be very scared that we will end up like the past two years.

Im still on the fence regarding Conte, part of me says he will bring the 'hunger' to the eyes of the players as tacchinardi once criticised the players for not having
the other half says the management are setting Conte up to fail by not providing an adequate squad for him to succeed with, there for we will have the same scenario sooner or later.

I think this is more important to us at the moment. We really need someone who can have a strong, positive influence on the players in the dressing rom.

I just watched a press conference he had a couple of months back (after a Siena game), fuck me what an intense bastard. You could see a fiery tough streak in him. Certainly doesnt seem like a "nice guy" coach. He has lead two Serie B teams to promotion, although he had a terrible spell with Atalanta that lead to his resignation.
He would surely instill a bit of a fighting spirit and pride in our players (if nothing else?) If the board hire him, they need to back him 100% and get the players he needs.
This will either be genius or epic fail.
