With most Italian managers, it would be a 4-4-2 when we don't have the ball. Krasic and Bastos would be back defending in line with the CM's. It's not a 4-2-2-2. That system allows the attacking 2 to roam. Doesn't happen in Italy.

You absolutely cannot play 4-4-2, 4-2-2-2, 4-2-4, whatever you want to call it, without fullbacks. It cannot be done. There is no such thing as "wingers attack, fullbacks defend", they have to each do a bit of both.

Or else you end up with Krasic running at 3 people while Motta stands behind the halfway line.

Nah, I'd most likely avoid every single Italian coach. Conte gives me some good feeling and like I said, no idea why. If I were making a list he'd probably be somewhere at the bottom, though.
