If u ask me, he is most likely to turn into a Bonucci 2.0

Players with low quality are spotted very fast...justlike Isla and Peluso. Theres a reason why those 3 have had infinite spells on the bench.

You think that if Ogbonna was so good, he would have been benched forever like he is now?. Man, even when we supposedly play our 352 in part for Bonucci, im pretty sure that Conte would have benched Bon right after a couple of games if Ogg showed some promise.

But dont fool urselves...Oggbona, Bonucci, Peluso, Isla.... all are the same....not juve material.

Wait, you think he was awful tonight because he wasnt in his natural position?
There's no question that the sweeper in our formation is much different than a regular CB in a 4 man backline. You can start with the sweeper having to initiate our attack.

That's true, but that's definitely not why he was struggling with basic defending. If anything you get more coverage and support as the sweeper. More demanding playing in the sides of the 3 man defence, or CB in 4 man defence where you get a lot more exposed. He wasn't constantly getting toyed with by Zaza or doing schoolboy errors because he had to initiate attacks...

Playing on the sides of a 3 man defence is more demanding but also more straight forward. Man mark. Win the ball. I think he's better suited for that. The sweeper in a 3-5-2 involves much more of the mental side, much more of a familiarity with your teammates (neither of which he might have right now).

But I like Ogbonna because even when Zaza "toyed" with him on the sideline, he was able to catch up in a few steps and stop the player. If someone like Bonucci gets skinned like that in that area, it's game over, whereas Ogbonna can recover. Even when Zaza had a step on him in the box, Ogbonna was able to close and get a foot on the shot, unfortunately it went in the net lol.

Right now he's all physical attributes, sort of like Ranocchia was/is. It remains to be seen if he can gain the mental aptitude to become a great CB but the building blocks are there. Obviously someone like Ranocchia is still a dummy but you can see why these players are in demand/cost money.

I remember saying the same sort of thing for Caceres during his first tenure here.

I dunno. Barza had had the shocking brain fart match or two this season. Sure, you could say Chiellini had more. But totally uncharacteristic.

He'd need to improve an awful lot to turn into Bonucci 2.0

But I always liked Caceres as a squad player - first season or not.
Even I like Caceres as a squad player.

I honestly think Caceres deserves a starting spot. He's been our 2nd best defender after Barzagli this season.
But let's not get carried away.

I can't help it.

What's the point in continuously criticizing Bonucci? Or repeating how Isla really isn't good enough. Etc.
Everyone's already doing that.

On the other hand, there's a lot of praise for Caceres, with a number of people even suggesting a starting spot. So I'd much rather reply to that then fall in line with the majority :D

 caceres was a disaster vs benfica, he also cost us dearly in CL already, only dependable defender we got unfortunately is Barzagli

Caceres is not a CB. He's good enough to be Licht's replacement for RB.

The only one that fit 3 man defense is Bonucci. The rest would be better of in a 4 man backline imo.

So did Chiellini.

My point isn't that Caceres is world class, just that he's been our 2nd best defender and due to that he probably deserves to start.
