So we're actually getting him?

:notbad:

Though I hope I don't hear complaints of how we 'can't afford' a top striker if we don't get one.

Yup. It seems Ogbonna can cover all three of our CBs and do so at a high level. And being left-footed also gives him the ability to play as a LB in very dire circumstances.

Plus he's young and can succeed any of our current CBs in a heartbeat. It's a no-brainer signing IMO. I don't understand how people see us playing with 3 CBs in the starting lineup yet we're devoid of even a single true CB backup and yet they think it's not an important signing. We're lucky Bonucci and Barzagli were ironmen these past couple years. We saw the scramble we were put into when just Chiellini went down.

Would be a great signing, his versatility and his quality cannot be understated. Still only 25, so could be a mainstay for us for years to come.

Not too fussed by this signing; nothing to get excited about really.

Would rather a Barzagli replacement than a Chiellini replacement.
I think the club see Caceres as that, it's just that Barzagli was rarely injured or showing fatigue.

Ogbonna can play similar positions to Chiellini but he's a bit different in terms of style. He has the physique to play tough but is not as determined a defender. He is better with the ball at his feet than Chiellini, however.

If Peluso is going to be retained it does make us look pretty stacked in terms of back three or back four options. From what I've seen of Ogbonna he is quite comfortable at left back, more so than Chiellini (who I don't think is a bad left back).

The issue of the vice-Bonucci would remain, if we stay with the three and let Marrone go out.

I think he is over rated. He is not even chosen as a backup for Italy NT.
Probably more to do with Astori being the more natural replacement for Barzagli, with potential injury issues. De Sciglio is the new bright young thing at fullback and looks decent, so it's hard to take his place at left back. The only other way that he could get in is to drop one of the two natural right backs.

If ogbonna could do roundhouse kicks for clearances, summasaults to play the offside trap and ogbonna had a south american name you would fap yourself silly
Try harder ;)

Quaresma is flashy, and I never liked/rated him. Giovinco can be flashy at times, but I wish we'd kick him out of the club ASAP.

I just don't see the point in making Ogbonha such a priority; I'd have preferred to wait until the end of the mercato to buy a defender, seeing as it isn't really the position we need strengthening in.
