Get with it, man! rooted as in "obtained the root account", ie. full access to your phone to do anything on it you want, not limited to the OS the vendor put on it.

That expression has been in use for a long time. If you know about Android pretty well, it's hard to miss that expression.

The Wildfire hasn't been rooted yet btw.

The thing is though, that anything these people do with phones that they think is so cool people have been doing with, you know, COMPUTERS for 20 years. Omg rediscovering the root account, rediscovering linux, hawt. I've been doing this daily for 10 years already.
