Andrea Ranocchia (Italian pronunciation: [anˈdrɛa raˈnɔkkja]; born 16 February 1988) is an Italian footballer who plays as a defender for Serie A club Internazionale.

Born in Assisi in the province of Perugia, Ranocchia started his career at Perugia then in Arezzo. Ranocchia played for Arezzo's Primavera team in 2005–06 season[1] and promoted to the first team in the following year. He played one season at Serie B and followed the team to play at Serie C1.

In August 2008, Genoa purchased half of the registration rights for €1.55 million[2] and sent him on loan to Bari, rejoining Arezzo coach Antonio Conte, where he won the Serie B Championship. On 26 June 2009 Genoa have signed him outright for another €2.45 million, made Genoa paid €4 million in total within a year.[2][3]

He made his Serie A debut with Bari in the 2009–10 season, forming a widely praised centre-back duo of youngsters with Leonardo Bonucci. Unfortunately, in January he suffered a serious season ending knee injury.

On 1 July 2010 he moved back to Genoa. After a link with Internazionale in February 2010, the clubs agreed a deal in June 2010 which involved the transfer of young striker Mattia Destro.[4] The transfer became official on 20 July 2010, which Inter signed half of the registration rights of Ranocchia[5] for €6.5 million[6] and sent Destro on loan to Genoa with option to sign him in co-ownership deal (who later purchased outright for €4.5 million).[7] Ranocchia also loaned back to Genoa for a season.[5]

On 27 December 2010, Internazionale bought full ownership from Genoa for €12.5 million (made him valued €19 million in total)[8] which were later confirmed by Genoa President Enrico Preziosi who expressed his delight at doing business with Inter. The president of Inter, Moratti, spoke on the transfer to Sky Italia and said: "Finally an Italian. We had kept an eye on him from before. It is our project to go ahead with young players."[9] On 9 January 2011, Ranocchia made his debut against Catania where Inter won the match 2-1. He made his Champions League debut against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Round of 16.

[edit] International careerOn 21 August 2007 he made his debut with the Italy U-21 squad in a friendly match against France. He took part at the 2009 U-21 Championship.

He made his debut with Italy senior team on 17 November 2010, in a friendly match against Romania.

18 million? No way. Would never do that in a million years. If he had a season like he did when he was at Bari, then fine, but that's a lot of money to gamble on a player with the premise that Conte can trun him around like he did Barzagli and Bonucci.

I do agree. I didn't like him at all at inter, I don't watch Italy a lot but what I have heard he made mistakes their too. I would only take him for under 10m or on a loan.

I forget to add that he went to that horse face to hand in a transferrequest so even if Inter doesn't sell him to us they will lose another young player or keep a very unhappy player.

19 Million Euros he cost Inter.....crazy money. They must have "owed" Genoa on some other deal, as that is madness !

I think that a 15mil bid would be more than enough!

I consider him a much better option than Bosccetti or Astori and he is the reason Bonucci looked half decent in Bari,
he offered the solidarity Barzagli offers for us now and Bonucci can benefit from it, while looking so exposed without it.
We took the sort stick, because we could not compete with Inter back then. They paid less for more, they had the prestige and influence to do so.
We overpayed, because we were desperate and weak.

For decades, Italy was producing some of the finest talents in defence. Not anymore though, as the NT has proved.
Now they mediocre at best and rare, that makes them even more overpriced, as it happens for every product that has a great brand name and is in high demand and low offer. For some reason, we still insist with that mentality and are looking for Italian only choices, for our CBs.
A mistake IMHO, but this is how it is...

Anyway,at this very moment, it is the best opportunity to buy him, as it was the worst opportunity for us to sell Giovinco's half when we did.
RAnocchia comes from a season that his team underperformed, (but not because of his performances)
and being only a bench warmer, in a bad team, surely devastates your market value.
Inter has a world class talent at destroying classy or potentially classy players, that bloom right away after escaping the grisp of them.
I m sure that Rannochia will be yet another classic example of this rule. A rule that is esp effective on Italians, even of Cannavaros class!

So if we are still so desperate to buy an Italian CB for nationalistic or any other purposes, Rannocchia is the finest choice we can make!
At worst case scenario, he would be the decent back up we need, for the 3-5-2, at best case scenario, he can prove again that he is so much better than Bonucci, become a starter now for us and the NT and solidify our defence for now and the years to come (because Bonucci will inevitably become better near the age of CB maturity, at 28, and when Barza will grow older, we will be well covered and purely It-alien)

Italian players are overrated, esp when they are considered the best of their generation.
They actually took the very young best Italian defender.
We paid more for the second best...
