This is what I understood about Pirlo’s tactics today:

- 352 is the base line
- LCM joins the attackers and creates a attack of 3/attacks the box
- Kulusevski/Costa were providing width, Ronaldo/Pjaca more central
- No regista, but Arthur, McKennie, Bentancur and Rabiot were covering the centre and doing the build-up
- Wingbacks in a role as always

Going to be interesting to see who he plays as LWB. He seems to like Alex Sandro in the back 3 plus can he contribute enough as an attack for that system? Pellegrini did well but I'm not sure about him as a regular starter.

We didn't play 3 5 2
We played 4 2 3 1 both halves.
Kulusevksi played am in the first half / caviglia played am in the second.
Ronaldo/pjaca played st
McKennie, Bentancur and Rabiot played the 2 in front of the defense, with rabiot and bentancour pushing forward.

Pirlo so much genius that we see totally different tactics. :D

The team had the right attitude out there which is already a positive worth talking about.

I think we will see Pirlo work a lot of rotation and hybrid formations depending on the available players and even characteristic of the opponnents, IMO kind of what we should expect to see given our large depth numbers but also unfortunate injury history that comes with it.

I like Sandro, but his crossing is abysmal. 99/100 he shoot against the opponent, it is really frustrating.
I think if we can move the ball quicker and get players into box his crossing would look a lot better.

It's not the best part of his game but I think the system last year under Sarri made it look far worse than it was. When the ball eventually made its way to him the defenders had often got back into position to be well placed to block the crosses. When he did get one in the box there was rarely more than 1 player to aim at.

Get more targets in the box and give it to him in space and it would make things easier.

Already an improvement on last year if he is flexible enough to run with a couple of formations throughout the season.

I think it’s the right time to try him as a LCD and Berna/Pellegrini as (wing)backs.

I like Sandro but have to confess that his qualities in attack are getting worse by the year. Time to try someone else there, and we need a solution for Bernardeschi anyway. Always wanted him as LCM.

Said in the interview he needs striker. I assume that since he needs him so much its not for the bench, but as a starter. Any idea how we will play then? Will we keep same tactics as today but bench Kulu, Costa and Berna, also what happens when Dybala returns? Where he can play in such tactics? Or we bench him or newly boight striker?

my guess is Dybala will be used in a similar way he was used when we had Mandzukic and Ronaldo together, maybe a little more central if Kulu starts.

so something like

Alphabet

CB Bonucci Chiellini

Kulu CM CM Sandro

Dybala 9 Ronaldo

In this formation I think you’d see McKennie and Rabiot start in the middle.

With a 3-5-2 you have 3x CBs and a pair of wingbacks so 5x defensively minded players. The wingbacks need to have excellent crossing for the target man we'll need to buy. Where does that leave Ronaldo who favours being on the wing?

A 4-3-1-2 let's us play Ronaldo, Dybala and Kulusevski together. A 4-2-3-1 allows for 4x attack minded players to roam around that favours Ronaldo and Kulusevski to drift wide as they like. If Dybala is muscled out then bring in the target man and go flat 4-3-3 and cross it.

Inter play the 3-5-2 and in the crunch games they get exposed badly. We should allow ourselves to be flexible and be able to go down the wing, play through the middle, counter fast etc.

He needs a striker because Dybala is injured and Higuain is leaving, at the moment it's that simple. When Dybala returns it's a problem for the coach to consider, but I wouldn't worry too much about a "starting XI" because a team like ours needs different options, 16-18 regulars instead of just 11 who you think will start if everyone is fit. You want to see competition.
