What Pirlo instantly brings is respect. It doesn’t matter how smart or great your tactics are, it means nothing if the players don’t respect you. Theyll never buy in to anything you tell them. It’s why juve didn’t progress at all since last August. I know nothing of Pirlos philosophies or tactics, but I know whatever they are, the players will buy in. I also hope his temperament rubs off on everyone.
Welcome! Strange and gutsy by everyone involved. I too am skeptical but my hopes and support surpasses my skepticism until Pirlo has left this club.
On the plus side I think his man-management is a huge improvement to Sarri. On the other hand... staff management...? I am sure he will be respected, liked, and so on, but management is complicated and requires experience.
Generally he lacks experience in all other important aspects... game management seems like something that relies in the intersection of theory and experience of similar situations. Maybe he is a strong tactician and henceforth but can he transfer his knowledge, experience and what he wants and so forth to staff and players? Even Sarri with all his experience was unable to transfer what he wanted. Although, my gut say it was more of lack of convincing. From day one it seems he was unable to convince the core players of his vision. They may have followed along without larger complains (what do I know) but I don't think they were convinced. In Pirlo's case I think the players will trust him as a person and player but it is something different to entrust him to lead you. There's so many things that lack of experience will cost him (and us). I know it is a cheap solution but I fear for Pirlo. I would preferably see him stay in B-team for a while and try his wings elsewhere for a while too and then come back.
Time will tell. Pirlo has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid basically, so with all my heart, welcome. Also really curious to get to know what your vision is, Andrea!

So surprised with Pirlo as a coach. Pirlo has no experience and he starts his first job at top club. Even Zidane start from bottom
Such a big gamble from Agnelli. Not sure what the plan is but I think Agnelli wants to lower expectation for next season and slowly rebuild the squad again.

What makes me second guess this is that all young coaches who took over at first tier clubs recently and were successful (Lampard, Hansi Flick, Zidane, Guardiola etc) all had at least some experience as either an assistant or coaching the B-team. We just appointed a coach who has 0 experience and was producing wine a few weeks ago. He might've been a terrific player but there's absolutely zero suggestion he might turn out to be a good coach.
We need replacements like never after 2011.
In 2015 we lost three great players (Pirlo, Vidal, Tevez) which was an incredible loss, indeed. However we still had that top defense intact (Buffon, Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli, Evra/Sandro, Lichtstiener) and we replaced Tevez with Dybala and Mandzukic. We kept Pogba too.
This year we already lost our most important midfielder and replaced him with Arthur. The defense is incredibly shaky. The midfield is the worst we ever had. We don't have a pure striker. We won this season on muscles with Ronaldo and Dybala. Next year we will need much more. In 2015/16 our defense won the scudetto after that terrible start, by conceding some 7-8 goals in almost 30 matches. Right now we don't have such strong part of our team that will push us to the scudetto against better opponents than those we had in 2016.
Of course, some luck in mercato and new purchases like Kulisevski, Arthur and some others might do the trick, but like I said, we need replacements like never before and we will need great luck with the new buys. Perhaps luck like the one when we hit the jack-pot with guys like Vidal, Pogba, Lichtstiener and made a master purchase in Pirlo.

Yes but in this context, it might be true to a certain extent as long as you build a super squad without any major weaknesses.
This is how guys like Zidane or Enrique have won trebles/back to back CL's despite both these coaches not really revered for their tactical acumen.

Crazy appointment. One of my most favorite players of all time, I used to be jelly of Milan having him years ago.
With that being said, I'm afraid of this appointment, the management is throwing him under the bus here. Totally green in this area, so many uncertainties. On the other hand I'm excited because he's obviously a legend and I wish him the best.
What I'm worried about is that the management clearly didn't plan this. They presented him as U23 coach a week ago or so and now suddenly he's the head coach of the first team.
Hopefully the mercato will be planned better. This team needs badly new faces. Young and talented players with potential to make that leap, even if we have to wait a season or two for them to grow. Should be about time to take over from the current senators.
With that being said I have no expectations for the next season. I think Conte will make it count and Inter will take the scudetto. In CL as long as they get out of the group stage, it should be decent. If Pirlo actually manages to make players buy into his philosophy and doesn't get fired, that should already be a success.
