No other player did what Zidane did in 2006 for his national team. He took the team on his shoulders, he had to compensate for an idiot in charge and he put in a performance with individual brilliance. The only thing missing was the title but they lost to penalties, so it was THAT close and down to chance in the end.

Change of mind :p?

As great as Zidane was, I reckon Cannavaro topped everyone that WC.

It was decided by who won the world cup. Both players were outstanding, i think zidane was a little even more outstandiing than canna.
Zidane uked up with that headbutt, and i think that if it wasnt dfor that headbutt, italy would have lost. I say this because by teh time zidane went amok and got send off..... italy was already losing the mdifield and france was smelling blood.

Again with that nonsense?

France scored via dubious penalty and italy HAD A LEGIT GOAL DISALLOWED.

The match shouldn't even went to penalty, italy won the wc fair and square.

what Hydde is saying though is that, had Zidane stayed in the game, France looked like the team closer to get the win before PKs. doesent matter what happened before when hes talking about what was about to happen

Well I mean there is no way of knowing and it's impossible to say whether France would have scored or not

That Zidane header that Buffon saved I will never forget, I thought it was going to be a goal for them time just seemed to slow down as it was going towards goal only for a reaction save by Buffon

This. Im not discussing dubious penalties or what happened before he got send off. But when he got send off, italy was getting pressed by france and zidane was geetting into the game.

Most likely theey would have scored a 2nd

Zidane was only good in the knockouts, wasn't good in group stages. That award was a farce. And the vets Zidane, Thuram, Vieira all got together after the group stages to compensate for Domenech. Zidane vs Brazil was something else though. Performance of the WC and one of the best of his career.

At that time, I thought 1. Pirlo, 2. Cannavaro, 3. Zidane

Looking back, now I think, 1. Cannavaro, 2. Pirlo

Best defensive performance of all time in WCs.

The Zidane brainwashing is hilarious.
