What does his position as a player has to do with his coaching skills? Klopp was a RB when he was a player, turned out to be a great coach. Same goes for Alex Ferguson who was a forward during his playing career. Mourinho was a midfielder at lower tier scrub teams, the list goes on and on. Not every great player will turn out to be a great coach. They are two different jobs and don't have much to do with each other. Coaching is about dealing with personalities, managing players' fitness, transmitting your tactical ideas to a group, game preparation and tactical decisions.
Most good coaches are midfielders though. Look at the Italian coaches f.e., Conte, Ancelotti, Allegri were all mids, thats arguably top3 Italian coaches atm. French ones I like - Zidane, Deschamps, Wenger - all mids as well. Spanish ones - Guardiola, Tito, del Bosque - all mids as well. Sure there are great coaches that are defenders or forwards, but its mostly mids.

What do you mean by Sarri hangover? As in the team is emotionally fucked because of the Lyon fiasco? Or tactically fucked?

We changed the tactical approach a lot from Sarri's 433 and emotionally a new coach will always bring a sparkle.
By Sarri handover I mean the squad had their footballing identity completely ripped from them under his leadership. We went from slow, controlled tempo based on switching play to one touch, through the middle frantic passing. We went from a solid defensive structure to a chaotic zonal marking system. The management even came out and said the players had lost their enthusiasm.

The team then basically forgot their previous identity. That’s what I mean by hangover.

Y, but Pirlo doesnt want slow, controlled tempo either, he is possibly even further away from Allegri than Sarri was

I disagree Pirlo is further from Allegri than Sarri. Even Bonucci said I’m a press conference that pirlo is a lot more Allegri than Sarri.

move not seen the same kind of aimless passing and narrow play that we saw with Sarri. Sarri was just a cultural atom bomb that we didn’t need to go off

Dybala said that the forwards get a lot more chances under Sarri in comparison with Max and ended up scoring 11 goals in the league, players talk shit :D Aimless passing is closer to controlled posession than direct vertical footie and pressing that Pirlo is trying to install. Im all for the Pirlo approach, but to me its radically different from both Sarri and Allegri.

Dybala was statistically better in three of his 4 seasons under Allegri. He had one shit season under Max.

And yet we still ended up with more pts, a better goal differential, and went further in CL in Max’s most awful season at the club.

Sarri was a cancer. A couple individuals having good seasons doesn’t make a coach good. It’s about how the team performs.

I think what is meant is that Pirlo has the mentality and drive that is more Allegri than lackadaisical/losing is okay/2nd place is a great accomplishment Sarri.

I agree with you that the tactics Pirlo is trying to instil are far different from both Sarri and Allegri. Though initial seasons under Max with a stronger mid we did a lot more pressing and Played more direct vertical Footie (if not quite to the extent that Pirlo seems to desire).

I’m not really disputing the fact Pirlo’s style is different to Allegri or Sarri. I’m saying Pirlo’s view of football but more importantly his personality and ability to communicate with the players is far closer to Allegri.

The point was what is the ‘sarri hangover’ - well Sarri was a complete departure from everything Juventus. Pirlo is not as big a jump from Conte/Allegri as Sarri was

Not gonna reply in regards to Dybala, not sure why you needed to write that analysis after I laughed at his 11 goals :D

Even if Sarri really tried to instill a "losing is okay" mentality in Juve (and I seriously doubt that :D), I don't think he succeeded lol.

I see the ideological differences, yeah. What I dont see - are there any practical implications from that?

Apparently I misread. Oops. Lol

Going by the finish of last season, and the beginning of this one, I’m worried that maybe he did do lasting damage to the club’s winning mentality.... :scared:

He will appear on the sidelines tonight striding confidently, turning his head ever so slightly in that World Class manner we've been accustomed to, his shiny mane dancing on the rays of the sun, a slight tilt; unleashing invisible yet potent particles of superior Italien shampoo into the air, delivering them unto the wind which will then lift them, carry them, upwards and onwards until they reach the unsuspecting nostrils of whatever dirty Ukranien plebs that have been let into the stadium.

Having marked not only his, but Our arrival gloriously in the aforementioned way, he shall guide our effeminate soldiers to yet another fine win on Europeen soil, a win that shall raise our hopes and dreams once again and serve as a starting point for yet another seemingly destinial and well-fated quest for that big eared Grail which for such a long time has eluded us.

And when that final whistle blows, when the points claimed officially counteth Three, when right before those froci players of ours begin their buttsniffing in the locker room, the entire world shall know that we went to Kiev and that we went there and WON, so help us God.

And the doubters shall crawl back into their caves

And the haters shall hide again under their rocks

And most important of all,

History, shall for the upteenth time, not have proven Cronios right.

Spoken with exquisite class. May fate allow us to break bread one day. Shall haters such as @pelvisnil present their bottoms for an animalistic fornication from the son of Satan and Bin Laden, Sergio Ramos.
