Being tactically adept as a player doesn't mean anything when you're being a coach. Being head coach is a totally different job compared to a player. You need to controll the dressing room, motivate players on a weekly players, transition tactics on to the pitch, optimize communication skills, working on fitness etc.
Bro I agree with your points. But we have to look at what we do know for now.

And what we know is that Pirlo has to be one of the most intelligent, tactically adept footballers ever and, from reading his book, he is very cocky, self assured and not at all afraid to tell others what he thinks of them/ what needs to be said.

dude casually mentions preparing for and winning the World Cup as if it was nothing. Pretty sure he's got ice in the veins.

I also remember him mentioning that his least favorite part of football was pre match warmups. That he thought they were useless masturbation and never put any effort into them :howler:

Due to Corona he will only have 4 weeks with the team and only one friendly (allegedly) before the start of the season. That's extremely unfortunate.

it’s what makes me hopeful. teams are usually a reflection of their manager. Sarri and mad max were both wound tight and it showed on the field in big games. Can’t see that with Pirlo in charge.

it was a good read. some of the points i agreed with, but the problem is that everything right now is just speculation and a gamble.

here is the thing that we know that should give us hope. what we know is that Pirlo has to be one of the most intelligent, tactically adept footballers ever and, from reading his book, he is very cocky, self assured and not at all afraid to tell others what he thinks of them/ what needs to be said.

@Mark can we have a predictions fred? League position, CL finish, top scorer, top assist man, MVP, best in position, best signing, biggest flop, best rookie, whatever else...

Could be a fun thread every season but esp this one. Harder to guess anything with so much uncertainty and changes.

Great read, and he summed it all up at the end: "Pirlo may be a great success but if he is, it will have had little to do with planning. His appointment may be a romantic whim or it may be a brand manager’s dream – it may even be that in a world where everything is saleable, a romantic whim is a brand manager’s dream – but it is not a rational decision."

I hope the fact that he was going to be the u23 coach means he will bring some of them up to the first team starting with Fagioli
Was just a job title. He didn't even train them, so doesn't know them. And only few months ago he said he says he sees himself as senior coach not a youth one.

But I hope to see Fagioli too.
