Not just based on the game yesterday, I always feel we need to drop him and put someone else who can offer more legs. Football is getting more physical and someone else would allow Pogba and Vidal more freedom to express their game.

Juve were caught out on the counter this evening when Andrea Pirlo was dispossessed and Pogba revealed this is a tactical issue.

“Allegri tells me to run off the ball, but the problem is that I should be closer to Andrea, as otherwise I leave him on his own.” - Pogba.

The problem is Allegri, is stuck if he drops Pirlo, media will point back to the Milan days. And knowing Andrea, he wont be happy sitting the bench as well, unlike Marchisio.

quotes from today according to footballitalia.

bolded some points which I think most will agree on, regardless of context.

when Pirlo plays, Pogba and Vidal's movement are limited because they have to cover for him when we lose the ball, which leaves us with just 2 players up-front. with Marchisio infront of defence both Vidal and Pogba can go forward imo.

also why slow the game down if we aren't ahead, playing for a 0-0 draw???? :(
Yeah it's not rocket science. Marchisio's ability to defend allows Vidal and Pogba move further up the pitch. It allows us to attack with more players and push the opponent to their box. Notice the fact we start to actually push them back the moment he goes off.

He's a legend but it was bound to happen. A club like Juve can't base their game on a 36 yo regista. I think his time is up here and Marchisio will cover his position pretty well.

Allegri is afraid to bench him again without showing everyone how off form he is, too bad it might be too late in CL.
I was thinking the exact same thing last night.

Allegri is just not a charismatic person. Too bad he's not a tactics wizard neither.

I don't care how much of a legend he is, but lately he has been abysmal. Both him and Llorente need to see the bench for an extended period of time. Possibly Evra as well. If you are in form, you should play. Pirlo is obviously out of it, and has become a huge liability. We can't afford to have other players guarding him, as it limits their attacking potential, and our attacking impetus.

Also, is not worth our effort sacrificing vidal and pogba just to cover a 36 year old and out of form player.

Our whole 352 was created around pirlo, now it makes no sense to continue using it. Time for a change

Hit the bench? Old man is done for good. He might still have a good game or two but it isn't worth the rest of the bad games he'll have. Sub him in at the most but even then we have much better impact subs such as Gio, Coman, Padoin, etc. I say we don't play him anymore and start rebuilding the team while we still can.

Liability. In fact Pirlo has always been a hit or miss kind of thing, especially in the last 2 seasons. He can do pretty much nothing all game and do a fantastic pass or score an amazing FK and that kind puts him in the savior territory.

But really, he's too much of a liability in Europe, he can't help defend and if he can't manage to find the gap for his passes, what's the point of playing him? It's like fielding 10 players. I'll always respect the guy for what he is and what he's helped us achieve back in 11/12, but really, MLS is waiting for you, buddy.

Exactly. If someone gets hurst by this comments above, i want to point that everyone here respects the guy for what he has done and im pretty sure the quality is there still, but no one can tick the clock backwards physically. His current end product is not worth a whole formation. Thats my point

I'm convinced there is no mentality issue with this team. The problem is you literally cannot play any other way but slow with Pirlo in the side. If the coach doesn't compromise the tactics to support him the players will, either consciously or subconsciously as stated by Pogba.

Well said.
If they (vidal and pogba) went gungho with the ball forward...we would concede almost instantly on counters.

1-Its a must to keep shape and press hight
2-the 2 mids cannot leave Pirlo alone
3-Tevez and whoever is with him gets isolated.
4-Wingbacks cannot totally commit because we need to "keep shape", or risk a counter from the wings.

This Pirloesque 352 has no solution.

There is a solution: Pirlo to ride the bench permanently in European fixtures and against opponents that actually attack us. If he must play, give him 20-25 minutes at the end when the opposition are tired. I'm fed up of watching other players compromise their attacking qualities because they have to bodyguard and protect grandpa Pirlo.

Pirlo has been like this for more than a year. People forget about the bad games he plays because he will have an orgasmic freekick or a ridiculous pass.

Pirlo is tired. He hasn't been the same since Concaf 2013. He's played in the following summer tournaments: Euro 2012, Concat 2013, World Cup 2014.

Players like Pogba are getting tired and are overworked, what the hell do you expect from a 36 year old? Not much.
