He had a solid if unspectacular world cup. The rest of the squad was lacking, sadly. He has had a great international career. I believe the only Italian that is not a defender or GK to reach 100 caps.

Now he can focus on his last couple seasons as a professional at Juve and hopefully lead us to glory in Europe and two more scudetti.

Southernmost one on the left, SCARY as hell :D
During the 2005-2007 I watched the rival Milan for two reasons : Maldini and Pirlo.
We can assume that we now have a true legend playing by our side. Watching every single move of his during the WC -despite Italy being ruled out- was pure pleasure. One can't spend more than a few minutes to realize who's Italy's backbone.

Verratti should take his place (considering Euros is in two years time) and he should slowly start taking that role of his.

De Rossi - Verratti - Marchisio

That's the way to go at the moment.

DDR in the middle and Verratti on a side. DDR is good with the ball too and better defensively while Verratti is pretty good going forward.

Pirlo: Available for new Coach
By Football Italia staff

Andrea Pirlo has conceded that whilst he intends to retire from international duty, if Italy’s new Coach wants him, he will be available.

The 35-year-old confirmed months in advance of the 2014 World Cup that his intention after the tournament was to step away from international football.

Whilst that remains the case following the Azzurri’s group stage exit in Brazil, the Juventus man has hinted that it is not a definitive position.

“For now I have decided to leave the national team, but if the new Coach asks for my availability, I would willingly return,” Pirlo is quoted as telling reporters on the plane journey back from South America.

Pirlo has been capped 112 times by his country and netted 13 goals during an international career that has so far spanned 12 years.
Basically... 'Italy should try and play without me but if they suck too hard I will come back'
