he will be 38 years old
So? He'll still be the best in the world in his position. As long as he keeps himself fit, which he will, then I don't see the problem. He's a footballing genius, the best regista there is, and he doesn't rely on pace. Can play until 40.

Love the man to bits, one of the best Italian players of all time...BUT, 4m per season plus bonuses for a 34 year old does have some risk to it. Especially a man who is playing domestic, European and NT football. Next season will be a real test for him after the WC.

Concerns...we pay Pirlo 4m per season...what do we pay Pogba? Especially since he has displaced a midfielder who is earning a lot more than him.

Anyway, we are better off with Pirlo than not so kudos to Marotta, not that there was a ever a doubt Pirlo wouldn't sign up. I just didn't expect his wage to be that much.

Nah, he's worth that much. A lot of people watch Juve games just to watch this artist, including several of my friends. In terms of exposure and marketing, it's worth it.
he is definitely a key to our team and without him we do not look as good. But still, at 34 years old and playing as much as he does...there is some risk to giving him a 2 year contract at his age.

There is obviously no alternative for him which makes his demands come to fruition by default...

Pirlo's game isn't based on speed, stamina and work rate, I don't think there is a problem in him playing on with us for a few more years.

And he's retiring for International Football after the WC. Genius player, and as Treq said, someone who brings fans to games in the stadium and watching on TV.

I understand all those things...but he is still 34 years old...and playing in what will be a few more hectic schedules. I hope he goes on strong until the age of 50, but I just hope he stays fit and healthy the next two seasons and doesn't have a decline in form as many players of that age seem to.

With someone like Pirlo his style of play is such that he shouldn't be restricted by ageing as much as many players. He's a player of technique and tactics, always paces himself well. He's been playing like an 'old' player for years.

It'll probably be the case that he'll need longer to recover over the next couple of years, but he's a guarantee in terms of class, just as Del Piero was.

Yeah. He well earned that extension as he basically lifted the whole team ever since he arrived at Turin. We were a clueless team for many years who had no basic idea what to do on pitch. We played ugly and without the brain in the team, we simply looked clueless. All of that changed when we signed Pirlo who was brilliant in most part of his games. His negative sides are basically erased when he has players like Pogba and Vidal next to him. He's doing his job and at his job he's simply out-of-world. Age in this case doesn't mean much, although it can be felt in many games, especially in Europe. Having him for 2 more years would be great, but benching him for some matches should not be ignored at all.
