Milan chief regrets Pirlo exit
http://www.football-italia.net/30948/milan-chief-regrets-pirlo-exit

Milan President Silvio Berlusconi admits the club should not have let go of Andrea Pirlo – but they have their sights on signing his heir.

Pirlo left the Diavolo in the summer of 2011 on a Bosman after no agreement was reached over a new deal. The playmaker subsequently led new club Juventus to the Scudetto.

“I shouldn’t have left Pirlo go,” the Diavolo chief told Sport Mediaset. “But we now have Riccardo Montolivo.

“With regards to the future, we’re interested in Marco Verratti.”

The latter is a player who many in the Italian game see as a natural successor to Pirlo for the national side. Juventus are also very keen on the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder.

Meanwhile, Berlusconi confirmed that Milan would be playing close attention to Lionel Messi in Wednesday’s Champions League game against Barcelona.

“Sulley Muntari and Mathieu Flamini will play on Messi,” he declared.

The former Italian Primer Minister was also asked about the future of boss Massimiliano Allegri.

“He could open a new cycle here at this club, but everything will depend on the results…”
