Call me overly optimistic but I think we will see a change for the better in how the club operates. For some reason (building a house analogy coming) we are REALLY good at building the foundation but once we start building up and get nearer to completion we forget to add windows and a front door.

I really think things will start changing. Anyway, we'll see. This might have been the kick in the teeth we needed. :boh:

IMO we are not looking at CL as an objective

This push for CL in the last few seasons was primarily due to Buffon , now with him gone , I don't expect the same kind of hunger and urge to win CL. Our budget doesn't allow that.

I posted the other day that maybe we need to take a risk at some point albeit a calculated one to stop us from falling further behind both on a sporting and financial level but that seems farfetched at this point.

That's why I bumped this thread. AA needs to make that announcement that our club philosophy has changed to winning the CL.

The club does what AA asks so our entire philosophy should be shaken up after yesterday.

:agree:

They keep repeating it a thousand times. Winning Serie A and reaching quarters of the CL is the objective every year. We just happened to overachieve in two of those seasons.

Our transfer policies won't change. We have made it clear that we won't stop players from leaving and facilitating their wishes. It's worked for seven long years, I don't expect it to change all of a sudden. We are a selling team and it will stay that way for now.
Exactly why we will never win a CL as long as the management call a "quarter final a success"

The mentality of the whole club must change and the transfer policy must change

We need to start from 0 with the team and coach, get rid of Chiellini, Barzagli, Buffon, Lichsteiner and Asamoah

A new backbone is needed as these guys are all too old and passed it

We all know that Andrea Agnelli wants the Champions League more than any other trophy, announcing that we want this is like Napoli announcing they want the scudetto. Our philosophy has always been to try and win 'em all.

The hard work should be done by Marotta by building a balanced deep squad, keep the talented and get rid of the oldies. Allegri has overachieved with these players. You cannot expect to go far in Europe with an aging defense and a decimated midfield. We need to build from the back to the midfield, keep our attacking options as they are.

needs a bigger budget for that.

AA just needs to make an announcement

'Heya guys, we were just pretending to be shit you know, infact we weren't even trying but NOW it's our objective. Now hold up I will tell my DS to stop being incompetent, my cousin to stop being greedy and our veteran players to age backwards'

No we don't need to start from zero. We already have replacements for Chiellini, Barzagli, and Licht and Buffon in Caldara, Rugani, Spinnazola and Woj.

Our money should go to fixing the midfield.

With all due respect bringing in players like Caldara and Spinazola to replace Chiellini and Barzagli is like starting from 0

Definitely a gap in quality there and there will be a lot of time needed to get them even close to the level Chiellini and Barzagli delivered for so long here

Not really a gap in quality when you see how Barzagli and Licht have been playing, for example. Sadly, but even Buffon is making more mistakes than ever. 2 or 3 years ago, yeah, would have been a gap then...but the current old guard? Nah.

Agreed, we're not starting from zero. Money into the midfield should've been spent last summer. Now we are 2 summer transfer windows away from rebuilding that segment of our squad.

Agnelli: 'UEFA penalise Italian clubs'
By Football Italia staff

Juventus President Andrea Agnelli accused UEFA designator Pierluigi Collina of “vanity” and “scientifically" damaging Italian clubs in Europe.

The Bianconeri won 3-1 in Madrid, but went out of the Champions League quarter-finals 4-3 on aggregate to a last-gasp Cristiano Ronaldo penalty.

While at first it might look like a stonewall penalty, from the camera behind the goal, it’s visible that Medhi Benatia got the ball.

“We must stay calm and analyse the situation. I see a series of countries that implemented VAR and I saw incidents that went against Italian clubs recently, such as the foul on Cuadrado, Milan at Arsenal and Juve tonight, proving we absolutely need VAR in the Champions League,” Agnelli told Mediaset Premium.

“This isn’t about one or two points, but rather going forward in a massive tournament that brings so much money and prestige, we can’t allow these incidents to occur.

“For some reason, the vanity of the refereeing designator is trying to scientifically prove he is unbiased and keeps assigning referees who are against Italian clubs.”

He was referring to Pierluigi Collina, an Italian former referee, who is in charge of assigning officials to individual games.

“It’s not Juve, but Roma had penalties denied against Barcelona, Milan went out of the Europa League with Arsenal, us tonight. If it’s a technical problem because UEFA don’t have good enough referees, we can offer to help train them.

“When we’re in the knockout rounds of the tournament, we need to train the referees up quickly, put good people in charge and help them to bring in VAR.

“A goal-line official behind the line isn’t the same thing as an official in front of a video replay. If UEFA are not ready, then they need to train it rapidly, just as Serie A did, plus in Germany, Portugal and elsewhere.”

The Italian Federation and its Coverciano centre will train the referees on VAR technology protocol going into the 2018 World Cup and Agnelli suggested they do the same for European officials.

“Players make mistakes, so do referees, but this official completely lost control of the situation. A referee in Madrid for the quarter-final must have seen the first leg, realise the Dybala red card was excessive and understand the various situations.

“The referee tonight was in total chaos. It’s a pity, the performance of the boys remains, we confirmed – as did PSG last season and Roma last night – proved you can come back from 3-0 down to turn things around.

“Incidents happen, the referee didn’t understand the moment at all. The most important thing is we have the technology, it exists and is in use, so we have to bring it into the Champions League.

“The referee tonight, when he sees it back, will be the most disappointed person here to realise what happened.

“At this point, we want to wish Roma and Lazio the best of luck, because it’s important for Italian clubs to go as far as possible.”

Great, push them to actually change the refereeing. Use var, and 5th,6th,7th, or outsider as official..
Anything to make sure, Juve wouldn't get this treatment again.
