Absolutely, he's a great system fit, and Shanny will move him all over the field. Don't get me wrong, he's a good addition -- just at a potentially elite price point. Looking forward to the details/structure of that contract.

I don't mind the deals where we overpay a bit now, and have flexibility moving forward -- got the cap space, and I'm ready to see some wins right now. He'll definitely help the team.

:D

Little bit harsh. Carlos did catch 59 balls last year, but I'm thinking Mckinnon could have 70+ receptions.

I still think they'll grab another back in the draft. Will also be interesting to see what Joe Williams looks like; think management was pretty high on him, and he's slightly bigger than Mckinnon, though not much.

Ahhh, contract details.

Hyde Can't catch.

Led all running backs in drops last year. Unless the pass is right in his bread basket, he isn't catching it. This is why they never bothered running screens or wheel routes with him on the field. It's because he can't catch anything in stride.

And he can't pass block either.

And I really have to wonder if people who are concerned about the money being paid by the 49ers are really 49ers fans.

seriously. This is how Marathe has operated since he took over. How many dead money situations have the 49ers had on players they have released in the last few years?

Exactly.

He dropped 6 passes, which is obviously not good. Wouldn't surprise me if a couple of those were CJ being slightly off the mark. But Hyde is also a 235 pound power back, and most guys in that range are worse at catching the ball than Carlos.

Hence the 59 receptions. But that's obviously not why teams sign a guy like Carlos Hyde, right?

As for the rest of it, it's true that there hasn't been a lot of dead money in recent years. Paying a RB who's never had a season with 160 carries, and is coming off consecutive sub-4 yards per rush 11.7M for 1 year is certainly an aggressive move.

Again, system fit looks great, I hope he proves all the doubters wrong, and earns every cent of the contract. No question he can be explosive on his day.

That's just it though. There are no doubters. Everyone is calling it a perfect fit. They were just concerned about the dollars. To which I already said, that they aren't 49ers fans if they are concerned about dollars on a contract that Marathe comes up with.

The Eric Reid stuff is sad
There's an argument to be made that kap isn't a system fit for many teams especially as a backup
Still Manziel is getting looked at

Reid however is definitely good enough to be a starting safety for many teams, this some bullshit

So is Kap. He's statistically better than half of the starting qbs in the league.

The whole fake nationalism thing added to the CET scandal, is probably more responsible for fans getting turned off of the game rather than the protests.

Is he?

Considering that

A) The only safety of any substance to have signed in Free agency was Tyronn Mathieu, and that was only because he was recently released. If that didn't happen, the number of starting caliber safeties to be signed this year would be 0.

B) The 49ers are counting on 2 players with injury histories (Ward and Tartt) to be the starting safeties, and a 7th round pick from last year (Colbert) is rounding out the rotation.

Yet the 49ers haven't even made an attempt to re-sign him.

Don't get me wrong. I like him.

But these cases that are being made for him in regards to being blackballed when players like Tre Boston and Kenny Vaccaro aren't signed yet doesn't exactly make that argument valid, in my opinion.

I am not sure if I am happy that we are getting Keesum, I mean he had a good season last season, he is a decent QB but I think the Broncos should invest in a QB long term.

I agree in regards to Kap as well

If he doesn't get signed then something is up, at least a roster spot

Would you say the same if Vaccaro and Boston, who are arguably better than Reid, don't get signed as well?

Or could it be that there simply isn't a market for safeties right now.

Wot? Are Vikings still going to build their team around Bradford?
They signed Kirk Cousins. Try to keep up
