shannahan being fired shocked me. the guy is 1-4 in the playoffs after elway retired, meaning he's been to the playoffs 5 times after his last SB win.

the guy is a winner, he won a SB with elway where dan reeves couldn't. he revolutionized the zone blocking scheme (and chop blocking) to the point where he could take any bum off the street and turn him into a 1000yd/season rb.

i agree with altair, the denver broncos have made a terrible mistake by letting go of a proven 2-time super bowl winning coach. sometimes owners and B.O.D.'s are far dumber than they let on.

They have not made a mistake. If someone tells you to do a certain thing a certain way, how long is it before people start tuning you out??

And he has been to the playoffs 4 times, at most since Elway retired, not 5. He went 1-1 a few years ago, when they made it to the AFC championship game and got rickrolled by the Steelers

And it wasn't John Elway that won those Super Bowls for Denver, it was Terrell Davis. Elway just rode Davis and hopped on for the ride.

The John Elway that was under Dan Reeves was a far different Elway that won those super bowls

Also, do you want to take a look at his track record as GM, in regards to drafting and signing free agents on the defensive side of the ball?

Boss Bailey, Ebanezer Ekuban, John Engleberger, Dewyane Robertson, Gerard Warren, Marlon McCree, Dre Bly among a host of other free agent busts that is a list that is too long to remember.

Made one good trade in Champ Bailey.

Drafted Jokes such as Jarvis Moss on defense.

The only good thing that he has done is that he has drafted well on the offensive side of the ball.

So, no. Denver will not regret letting Shanahan go. To be honest, he has gotten by the last 5 years without anyone even raising an eyebrow at some of his front office moves.

terrell davis was great and all but i don't think you are looking at the big picture. shannahan built that o-line that davis ran behind and he also drafted davis if i'm not mistaken. so if you don't credit reeves for winning with a HOF QB in elway then all credit is due for shannahan for giving elway what he needed to win not 1 but 2 superbowls. and like i said, he shuffled through rb's after davis without missing a beat, each year cranking out a 1000yd back like it was nobody's business.

on top of that, he is the most winningest and most successful coach of the denver broncos. he ends his career at denver with a .615 winning pct which is 48 games above .500. for him to last this long with the amount of success he has garnered is exceptional and thats why you don't let go of a coach like that.

jeff fisher (after cowher) is the most tenured coach in the NFL and its plain and obvious that he has overstayed his welcome. he has 1 SB appearance and .557 winning pct which equates to about 26 games above .500. with little to no accomplishments you're telling me that shannahan was let go justly?

well then we'll see in the next 3 years if this move was the right one to make. you don't let go of a coach that knows how to win, the broncos have now officially given the division over to the norv fucking turner and the chargers for the next few years at least

Bottom line. What has he done since they won the Super Bowl in 1999.

1 playoff win.

That's it.

I never questioned his personnel moves on the offensive side of the ball. But you will notice, that the majority of those players were drafted. The majority of owner Pat Bowlen's free agent money has been used on the defense.

An absolutely staggering amount of money.

And that defense has just gotten worse and worse every single season, and quite frankly there is no excuse for it.

We are not talking about jeff fisher. Jeff fisher is not part of this equation. Jeff fisher needs to be more scrutinized as well, but like I said, he is not part of this discussion. And also keep in mind that Jeff Fisher does not have final say on player personnel moves the way that Shanahan did.

as the story is made clear it was a matter of egos, like i suspected no way would they fire him out of nowhere without securing someone as competent but ego or not unless the broncos win fast(which they wont) the fans will want the heads of those who fired a hall of fame coach.

ok it's the same defense, with rivera it was the best D in the NFL with babich(lovie's butt buddy) it's been ranked 20 some for the last 2 years
he's not head coach material hes a had a fluke of a year; this year he duly demonstrated how amateurish his headcoaching is(Atlanta, Vikes) this team has no passion and lacks any kind of strong leadership; lovie might be a good position coach but as head coach he s just waaaay over his haead.
why did he fired rivera then ? (i'm watching them only for one year..so i'm a rookie in most of their history)
