Amauri's wife becomes Italian
Tuesday 3 March, 2009
Juventus striking ace Amauri is edging closer to gaining Italian citizenship, prompting speculation he may play for the Azzurri.
The Brazilian-born marksman is yet to play for his homeland and has been subject to an international tug-of-war.
Amauri's wife Cynthia received Italian citizenship on Tuesday morning in Palermo and will have a passport within a few days.
This gives Amauri the right to apply for his own passport, which would make him eligible for La Nazionale.
However, such a process can take up to six months and Amauri is likely to be selected by Brazil boss Carlos Dunga within that time.
If Amauri isn't handed a Seleção chance before the summer, there is a possibility that he could make Marcello Lippi's squad for the Confederations Cup.
