Amauri chooses the Selecao

Amauri has finally confessed he will not wear the Italy jersey and is waiting for another call from Brazil.

There is absolutely no chance that I will play for Italy against Brazil in London,” he told Esporte Interativo in his homeland.

Marcello Lippi had hoped to give Amauri his debut in that February 10 friendly, but instead it seems to be the game that prompted a final decision.

The Juventus striker is in the process of gaining Italian citizenship and could play for the Azzurri when his new passport comes through.

He did receive a call from Brazil boss Carlos Dunga last week, but it was past the FIFA deadline and Juve refused to release him.

I will continue to dedicate myself to my club and try to find space in the Selecao,” continued Amauri.

I hope to be called by Dunga again in the upcoming games.”

He had until now been reticent to say one way or another which team he preferred to represent at international level.

The signal from Dunga – even if it was late because he was a replacement for the injured Luis Fabiano – appears to have made up his mind.

Does this effect his double citizenship and our foreigner slots?
I hope that he wont lose more games/days, so that he can reach over there, just to stay on the bench and ruin his morale...

Firstly, we BOUGHT him from an italian team, so he doesnt count as a non-EU player. Secondly, there is no such thing as foreigner slots, you can have as many as you like, but the difference is you ar only allowed to sign 2 (outside italy) every season.

And he will get italian passport anyway sometime this year, but it wont help us, it will help Amauri in the future because it will increase the chances of teams outside Italy wanting to sign him.

This same thing was repeated at least 50 times only in the last year. I don't see why some people still don't understand the rule.

I find they have more fun than Italian in playing football but when they're off, they are off.

eh...there are so few examples of players playing most for pleasure..for the game..for the love that they have for the club...u cannot compare italians and brazilians in this way.

    Ranieri post-Catania:

“We should erect a statue in Amauri's honour for the way he kept the game alive right to the end."

Sensible comment for once. I believe Amauri's a joy to watch even when not scoring. He was great today and while he was understandably angry and frustrated, it didn't affect his game.

There are at least 2 defenders on him once the ball reach his feet, he was visibly tired and panting like a dog ...

Despite that , he worked his ass off to maintain the pressure for the last 5 mins or so ...

    Forza Amauri !!!
