Higuain averages 68.70 minutes per game while Morata 47.17 minutes. Don't you think being a supersub for Real Madrid kinda distorts your data? they did score 173 goals last season

You could argue it's tougher scoring in less minutes per game. You have less time to get into your rhythm

Exactly. @j0ker

I don't understand how this is even a discussion to be honest.

Morata is 25, and still inconsistent, but better than a goalscoring machine like Higuain. Get out.

Well max two more seasons and 2020 Morata will be miles ahead of 2020 Higuain. Id trade them in a heartbeat if given the chance

How about you actually watch the players objectively? Next you gonna say dzeko is better but since you more of a statistician than a football fan Here's an argument this is moratas firat season as a starter at his age higuain had what 5 times as many goals while starting fir nadrid for a few years.

so something that happens 5 years ago makes Higgy better right now? the only thing ill give Higuain is finishing, and even that starts to be questionable recently as he declines

But you cherry picking career numbers is fine, lol this is a silly comparison
You mean that at top of the page? That was just random stats, and it's not cherry picking, it's comparing their whole careers. What I'm saying is, Morata is better all around, and Higuain is the better finisher, but it's not world's apart as members here often like to point out

I don't get why people are so defensive about Higuain right now. What seems obvious is that Higgy started his career as an absolute beast for Madrid, looked like he was going to be the next all-time great CF. and right through 2009-10 season, when he had 29 goals-6 assists in 2850 minutes, this looked true. Him and Tevez were Argentina's best players at the 2010 Word Cup as well Imo. But that injury that made him miss most of 2010-2011 did something to him. He lost his place as a starter to Benzema while out and never regained it, and he lost a step and some of the pace he had before. He's a very good striker but he's never reached the heights it looked like he would in his early 20s at Madrid. The last 2 years have been his best since then, he's still a lethal finisher, but he's lost that ability to create magic for himself that he had pre-2011. A mix of weight gain, probably some issues with confidence, and losing a step post injury.

Morata has that ability to create for himself and others, and still has that step to keep defenders honest. We saw it in his last year here when Allegri frequently played him off Mandzukic or Zaza on the left over he last 4 months of the season and he was an absolute beast. His characteristics and strengths also mean hat even when he has a bad game he's not invisible and still offering something. When Higuain has a bad game you are most often playing a man short on the pitch.

I'm happy we have Higuain. He's an excellent striker. But I'd be happier to have Morata as I prefer that sort of player and the strengths he has, and he's also just entering his prime.

Who knows, maybe Higgy will make us look like fools in CL this year. I sure hope so.

Well put, completely forgot about that injury he had, and it also explains his decline pace and mobility wise. He still has rare games where he looks mobile and productive overall, but he's mostly static and useless unless we create 3-4 chances for him and he converts atleast one. I don't think he will show up in the knockouts (he looks so slow), but I'll happily take all the bashing if he actually shows up in the coming months

People seem to forget Morata's second season here. He too misses quite some easy chances, but I really see him struggle here the way Allegri likes to play. I do think he'll be great here in the CL campaign since our style probably would be more counter attacking minded.

He had a terrible season up until January and then absolutely lit things up both in the league, and the two matches against Bayern. He was fantastic down the stretch playing LW/SS beside Mandzukic after the Dybala injury.

Yeah, but it's as a striker we're debating here. As a striker Higuain is surely the superior player. Don't forget, that most attackers don't score nearly as much at this club compared to former and new clubs. I guess Dybala is the excpetion?

Oh. I agree with you that Higuain is still the better #9, although I believe that's slowly changing. I just think Morata would serve us better in CL. It's a moot point really. Madrid seemed to have no desire to sell him in the buyback window, they wanted to see if he could be their next CF, decided he wasn't good enough and sold him this summer. We had to buy someone, and Higuain was the best available that summer. We overpaid, but whatever. He was instrumental in a domestic double and getting us to the CL final.

What I'm more worried about is how quick his decline will be if he doesn't get in better shape.
