Haven't heard anyone claiming Chiellini is better than Bazagli for a while.

The 3-5-2 will always have Barzagli ahead of Chiellini because of what it requires from the CB.

There's no coincidence to me that Chiellini's "dip in form" has been exactly when we switched to a 3 man line.

A 4 man line could see Chiellini back ahead of Barzagli. The instincts that Chiellini has in the box are some of the best I've ever seen. It seems he has an extra bit of acceleration when there is a scoring chance in the box.

Watching him chase wingers or play the ball at the top of the opponent's box is not easy on the eyes however.

Yeah, Chiellini's at his best when he's required to man-mark or generally do small-space defending.

More likely to spend time doing that in a nice, compact back four.
