There are many reasons that we wont sign Alex:

-Too good for Marotta to sign
-He will demand a salary we are not willing to pay to a non Italian spectator maker/jersey seller.
-We are so cheap when it comes to defense, thats why are taking Caceres ... ... ... on loan...
-He is not Italian.
-He is not even half Italian like Amauri.
-He is not even proven in Italy for Marotta's shake.
-The DP fans will have an issue with a new ALEX
-He could replace Bonucci and Barzagli and with Licht on the right and the possibility of Caceres on the left, our defense would be from 4/5 Italian to 2/5 Italian, we CANNOT allow that in our Ital-Juve, hell will freeze before we fix our defense.
-And dont forget, as always, we must spend the majority of our transfer budget on new CMs and SSs, this is a tradition we respect since serie B and as long as AA draws breath, we will keep doing that...
Cronios..Thats gold.

Do you think Alex will accept a bench role?

Do you think Juve can afford to pay wages as big as Alex will want for a player they plan to use as backup?

How big do you think his wage will be? He's a Chelsea reject and doesn't get much playing time in a year or so, don't you think he won't appeal for first team place at Juventus?

It's not about allowing Lichtsteiner the freedom to attack.

Even when defending, Lichtsteiner will naturally hold a relatively wide position.

If you have two fullbacks inclined to hold wide positions, that leaves quite a large space for the CBs to cover and with the defensive line stretched, it would be easier for the opponents to thread balls into the spaces between defenders.

Having one fullback who naturally holds narrow just gives a nice balance to the backline.

Of course, if Juve were to suddenly sign an amazingly good player to play CB with Chiellini, leaving the CBs with quite a lot of space to cover wouldn't be as big a problem.
Lichtsteiners width should be exposing Barzagli then. But I don't agree that Chiellini plays much narrower than Lichtsteiner. Lichsteiner appears to play wider because he is more willing to attack. As a natural and capable full back, he's capable of doing so without compromising defense. Chiellini does go forward and does attack and cover the flanks but he is less competent going forward and does so less often. His defensive positioning is not so different to Lichtsteiners. Good full backs can in fact push forward, position wide and simultaneously defend the flanks.

There's no reason why you can't have two full backs capable going forward. It should be imperative especially considering that we look to stretch defenses with out width and often fail. We don't need another CB we need a good LB.

which team has both FBs that go forward continuously? one always hangs back around the halfway line in case of a swift counter.

When the RB attacks, the LB stays back and acts mostly like a CB, and the other way around.
So that the team almost always has at least 3 defenders. That's how i learned to play the position and how it seems to work out.
I can understand what Red says but it could work with 2 attacking backs if they know how to defend.
For example, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo or Sagna and Clichy, Ashley Cole and Bosigwa. Ofcourse there are the other examples like, Dani Alves with Abidal, G.Neville with Evra and so on. Either way seems to work if they know what they're doing.
Personally i'd prefer a more technical LB but i won't go nuts if we stay with Chiellini for the moment.

9) with 4-3-3, likely to buy another regista(monty) and ss/rw(borriello)

speed and positionning fixes that
chiellini has both, barzagli has positionning

eighter a LB to move chiello to the center
or a CB that has great positionning, or good pace solves this

    Cron, it's sake, not shake.

    This is a Marotta shake:

We also spent €22m on Bonucci and at least €19m on Lichtsteiner, so we haven't been so cheap on defense.
