Secco's job at risk Monday 14 December, 2009

Juventus have stood behind Ciro Ferrara, but it appears changes could be afoot in the boardroom with director of sport Alessio Secco particularly at risk.

The Bianconeri's last campaign in the transfer market has come under real scrutiny as the Turin giants spent over £50m, mostly on two players, namely Diego and Felipe Melo.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Secco was the main sponsor of those two deals and if a sacrificial lamb is needed as penance for Juventus's recent poor form then he will apparently be the one most likely to get the chop.

Another criticism levied at Secco was his inability to sell players during the summer, the most notable being Christian Poulsen, leaving Juventus with a player who was unwanted, but his saving grace is perhaps the fact Poulsen has proven very useful in an injury hit season.

Secco isn't well loved in the dressing room or the curva, which makes him the most palatable fall guy in this black period for the Bianconeri.

The news comes just hours after Lapo Elkann, the grandson of Juventus legend Gianni Agnelli, launched a scathing attack on the club.

Elkann said: “For a fan like me the last two Juventus games have been horrifying. My grandfather would have liked the Juventus that beat Inter, not that against Bayern nor that seen in Bari.

“They were not games worthy of Juventus,” he concluded.
Another bullshit article. Lapo put the blame on the players, but that part is neatly omitted.

I think he made the right thing to bring in quality players like Diego and Melo, its just unfortunate that they flopped a bit.

It's not like I should drag him through the mug but Melo transfer wasn't even that necessary at all. I expected us to sell someone in that department but they stayed, not to mention it's a great amount of :money: It's really, really a lot. For 25mln you can choose. So far we got nothing. Maybe some coach would change his role and get his old form back but right now, how it is, he's a flop. He had a couple good games and that's it. Too many mistakes, doesn't look like a Melo from Viola anyhow.

How can you not blame Secco for not improving our defence?
Eversince we came back from Serie B, it was clear that our weakest department was the defence. Yet, we ended up on getting Cannavaro and Grosso. These would've been great transfers in 2006, but not in 2009.
Caceres was a gamble that's turning out into a good one so far. I believe that he would improve even more if the team had a good balance and could cover him up when he joins the attack.

Diego was a good transfer, lad needs time, more faith and a coach/staff that know what they're doing. IMO, Melo was overpriced, same goes for Amauri.
And next to the fact that Secco was unable to sell any of our useless players last season, makes him vulnerable.

If he was to leave, I would not feel sorry for him cause he could have done a lot better than he did.

Never had a problem with any of Juve's BOD or players not a single one of them. The only guy that i really really hoped he'd be out of this club is Secco.

Firing Secco is definately a step in the right direction. I really hope that news is true

It's not even Secco's fault.

He made so many mistakes before but nothing. Now that he signed Melo (ok a bit weird transfer) and Diego, people jump on his head. Personally I'd get rid of Blanc and Ciro first.
It's ironic that he may get sacked after this summer's transfers given that it was his best summer yet.

Talk about a fall guy. He should have been fired for Almiron or Poulsen. Not Diego and Melo -- who haven't lived up to their deserved expectations. (Though he should have gotten rid of Poulsen.)

Sounds like we're thinking of firing the wrong guy as a scapegoat for our problems right now.
