You post like it is a done deal and we are going to buy him in 6 months, crystal balls?
Of course we are. As others have pointed out, its not really a real loan, it's just a way to get more installments.

Why would a team loan out their best striker for 2.5 mil €? If we could just send him back after his loan that would be a great deal for us and a terrible one for Cagliari.

We could get a decent striker for just 2.5 mil, have him score a few goals and help us improve our position, and in the summer we could send him back and get a new striker. On the other hand Cagliari cant replace him on the last day of the market (especially for just 2.5 mil €), and they'd lose their best striker for the rest of the season. For just 2.5 mil €. Do you really think they would make such a terrible deal on the last day of the market for just 2.5 mil €, basically nothing? They're not idiots.

Furthermore, all the reports of the negotiations said that Cagliari wanted guarantees we would buy him. Marotta made a promise we will take the option, if we dont that would make him lose all credibility in future negotiations, which would be terrible for us and also make him proactically unemployable in Italy. Do you nreally think he'd do that?

In short, we're 99% taking the option.

Matri's Interview:
“To say that I was very happy in Sardinia would be reductive even if I ask for understanding from a professional point of view.

“My thanks go above all to the President, to my teammates, the directors, the technical staff and the club in general.

“I would like to give a special salute to the fans of Sardinia who have always supported and included me even in moments of difficulties.

“I wish Cagliari the best of success for the current season and for years to come, hoping that all their dreams, the new stadium included, can come true as soon as possible.

“I am linked to Cagliari by indelible memories, above all my first goal in Serie A at the San Paolo.”

I think of course we will sign him in summer

Of course.

Also, to add to your post, we could still play dirty and use our right not to buy him, but that's gonna be a suicide and no team will want to work with us anymore (especially these kind of loan+right to buy deals) after Cagliari's president says what happened.

Quag, Pepe and Matri are our players. We are probably obligated to buy them. In order to buy them we will either have to NOT buy Aquilani or if we buy Aquilani too we most probably won't be able to buy anyone else and what we have now is more or less our next year's team too. A change could happen if we miraculously make the CL or we sell a player for big money (Buffon or Chiellini are probably the only ones who could give us that).

Not changing too much would be a blessing for once. Overhauling our team every summer hasnt done us much good so far.
Yes, but even if we do have additional 30m eur to spend, those will go for the defense. We won't change anything (or much) in midfield and attack anyway when we'll have Matri, Quag, Krasic, Aquilani, Melo, Marchisio and Pepe. The problem is that now we probably won't have money to improve the defense.

We should leave this loan thing completely. Only crappy ones are available and we're paying ridiculous amounts for players we don't own.

:agree: Although, we'd still be spending a lot on making the loanee players ours, which will still cost a lot. Would we have enough money to actually improve the area that desperately need revamping?

You make it sound like we will have to spend over 50m. to buy those players in one window. While actually we would have to play only 16m. to get all of them(incl Aquaman) for the first payment over 3 years. That's if we manage to get Quag's price to 10m. which should be possible i think.

@ Luca even if we get him next year it would "only" be 5 million, so yes we would. If he can help us get CL it will be worth it IMO.

Because it is January, he just scored a brace and is one of the most in-form strikers in Serie A, obviously overpaying is likely.

But thats how its done, you have to factor in the expenses, because we're still paying for players we bought two or three years ago. Even if it is in installments you have to kkep in mind the totals.
