Yeah, I would tend to feel there is a place in the squad for an in-form Iaquinta.

Not so sure he should be kept given how injury prone he is, though.

You get them to agree to lower the price of their player in exchange for a couple of ours that don't really cost us anything at all...perhaps ones that come thru our academy.. Give them F. Rossi and Immobile that cost us nothing at all ever and have them bring the price of Matri down from 16m to 11-12m and we save money...it isn't rocket science.

There are different scenarios here Buck.
It shouldn't be, but I'm beginning to think it is.

Regardless of which players you insert in the deal, and whether our not they cost us something in the past (every single one has, even the so called "free" ones or former youth players), as long as they're under contract with us, they have a certain value. And if you get rid of one of these players, you also no longer have that "value" in your books, but you obviously get something in return ideally (be that money or another player).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against using players we have no use for in these deals. Far from it, at times you can really pull off some great deals (even if the smaller clubs usually have the advantages over the bigger ones, since the bigger ones are mostly the initiating parties).

But simply using this tactic does not bring the price down. And this is not even an opinion, it's a simple fact. And my earlier, hypothetical example proves just that.

The only way you could talk about bringing the price down (if we continue with Ekdal as an example) would be if we value him at 4m & Cagliari agrees to a deal that would see us paying less than 14 + Ekdal. And even then, it's still debatable since we are estimating Ekdal's value, while Matri's was, apparently, already agreed. But, as mentioned earlier, since we are the initiating party, chances are that whatever player of ours Cagliari is willing to take, will be valued higher by us than by them.

But yes, I would consider keeping an in form Iaquinta as a smart move as well :D

I'd rather have Matri than Quag next to a new SS like Sanchez or Rossi.
Well depend on the partnerships
Playing with 2 strikers means you will have to partner 2 completely different players either someone who will have a free role moving a lot on a certain wing with the left winger from the midfield doing a mez'alla role something like Marchisio and Quag together do abd a targetman,or a number 10/trequartisata with free movement everywhere and in this case Ala Del Piero you will need decent 2 wingers or an a very attacking minded fullback if you want to put a Mez'alla ahead of him, this number 10 with a targetman
Matri and Toni are Juve's targetmen,Quag can be the SS/LW,a partnership between Sanchez and Matri will be far better than Sanchez and Quag for example, not saying matri is better but it depends on the system
out of all Juve strikers,Toni and Del Piero are the ones who will probably stay, and then the club will probably sign another 2 players,Matri is probably the best option for the targetman after missing Dzeko,Quag is good,I am sure there are better options to do his role like Pastore and Sanchez but he wont be a bad option at all

We need more creativeness in midfield...if we keep this krasic, melo, aquilani and marchisio midfield, then we need some super creative forward to play next to a good striker.

    Matri believes in Juve plans
Alessandro Matri is convinced that Juventus will return to the very highest levels of Italian football. “The project is solid.”

Juve have had another season to forget after a disastrous 2011 has seen a side chasing the Scudetto turn into an outfit struggling to qualify for the Europa League.

    “This is a transitional year,”
Matri, a January arrival, told the Corriere dello Sport on Friday. “However, there is a base to build on. The project is solid and ambitious.”

Matri arrived on deadline day after Juve netted him on a loan deal, with an option to buy, from Cagliari. He’s responded with five goals in seven games.

“I didn’t expect to make such an impact,”
the striker added. “On a personal level, I’m very happy with how things are going.”

There was talk that Matri could move to Milan and work under Massimiliano Allegri again, his former boss in Sardinia.

“Milan already had four attackers and then they signed Antonio Cassano,”
he added. “I think it was just one voice from many.

“Even if it wasn’t, how much space would I have had to play there?

“As for Juventus, I was told of their interest in the last week of the window. I remember deadline day, I was just glued to the television and my mobile phone.

“I scored two goals the day before and Cagliari President Massimo Cellino asked what I wanted. I replied by telling him that Juve were my dream and he understood.”

Matri is expected to be kept on in the summer as Juventus aim to finally build a competitive side for the future.

    “I’m honoured,”
he added. “It’s a big responsibility and I’ll give my all to demonstrate my worth. Juve want to start winning again and I just want to start.”

    Pastore - Matri - Krasic
    Marchisio - Mascherano - Melo
De Ceglie* - Chiellini - Bonucci - Tasci
    Buffon

*or a better left-back on the market.
I would really want to try out this team. There's speed, creativity, and solidness. I hope the project, in which Matri mentioned, is similar. :)
