I am not mafia fan. But it just stupid to hate mafia if you even dont understand what is it. And ofcourse it is stupid to argue that Godfather was BEST Pacino film..

tbh goodfellas is my fvourite movie, but i aint one of these guys who just watches it for the violence, ofcourse thats part of it, but i love the acting and the different emotions that are protrayed throughout the film.
Definetly, the violence was even overused, especially when it came to Joe Pesci. Still the movie provided a nice portrayal of a mafia lifestyle and one of the most probably endings of it, becoming a snitch, the other ones being early death or prison.

Yes true, but at the same time, in real life Tommy de Simmone was much worse (joe pesci), the real way he diead was that he tried to have sex with karen hill. And she went and told Paul Vario who she was having an affair with, so he told the Gambino's about Tommy killing Billy Batts. In turn paul set up a mocked meeting to initiate tommy into the mafia proper. Alot more grewsome.

And the thing i really like about it, it wasnt a hardcore mafia film in the core of the mafia family, rather it was about the average joe in the mafia world. And showed it from that angle which really captured my imagination.

Yeah I can imagine, I was just trying to say when violence in such films is used too much, it takes away something from the movie, it makes it seem less credible. That's how I see it.

yes true, it does take away some of the cinematic brilliance to some films but the violence is added in to entertain people who aren't very interested in the plot. heres a prime example:

yeah but i only watched it for the action f*ck the storyline
reference to the violence in scarface.

You described it really well, Goodfellas is really about the average Joe of the mafia. I gotta remember that one. :D

its the godfather and scarface vs meet the fockers? its a no brainer

and besides al pacino said what is the most inspiring speech in my life, the speeches in inches from the film any given sunday, which in itself wasnt his best film, but for that quote alone is imbedded in my life

If we are going to compare their roles in some of their movies it's:

Godfather, serpico, dog day afternoon, donnie brasco, scent of a woman vs Godfather 2, raging bull, mean streets, taxi driver, once upon a time in america.

De Niro edges it for me.

Pacio edges it for me.

I can't believe no one mentions De Niro in Men of Honor, one of his better roles IMO.

aahh you missed out goofellas :D

Another thing about scarface for me is that all the typical people you see who say "scarface is baaad!", do not truly understand what they are watching. Theres one boy in my class at school and hes in awe of the film, and i doubt he truly credits the acting in the film, only the violence and the cuban accent of pacino.

What I appreciate most in Scarface is Pacino's performance compaired to the character in Godfather, the movie itself is not so good. The two characters of Michael and Scarface are worlds apart and I didn't think Pacino could have a role more suited to him than Michael, then I saw Scarface and I was left amazed. He was so convincing I was blown away, I couldn't believe this was the same guy that did the calm and classy Don Corleone.

thats what i was saying:toast:

if anything comes of this, at least we will have educated some of these guys on some of the best films ever made, with a level of acting rarely seen
