Well if its any consolation the only games I'm interested in watching are the Algeria games:D. Brahimi, feghouli, mahrez, slimani, bentaleb; too much talent in there:tup:
I hear Raouraoua is close to convicing fekir to join too?
Glad to hear :touched: In attack and midfield the team is pretty much stacked, it's really a great generation (relatively speaking).

I think so (and hope so), the federation is really pushing for it. There are rumors saying he'll announce his choice for Algeria after signing his new contract, but I take them lightly. For what we know, Fekir is undecided for now, he's pressured by both countries and it could go either way. If he goes to a bigger club this summer, it will probably be settled for France unless the issue is sorted beforehand. If Algeria continues on the same path and does well in the AFCON, it could maybe help.

He would be a massive addition.

Has Algeria ever had a good team? I don't recall one.
Yes, a great team in 82' that probably every Algerian knows about. Apparently, when they were to play to play RFA (West Germany), most thought it would be a demolition and some of the players (a.k.a. Rummenigge, if I remember) were dedicating in advance to their wife, etc. the goal they would score. Algeria's team was an unknown on the world scene, but it worked well for them.

Madjer, Belloumi won both Ballon d'or africains in their respective career, Assad (amazing left winger), Zidane (another one, very good midfielder), Merzekane (great fullback), Dahleb (great player, a legend for PSG). All legends. It really was an all star team. They played with 4 number 10. My dad told me once Madjer could have won the original Ballon d'or at some point in the late eighties but that's maybe out of bias :p. He won the champions cup against Bayern for Porto avec une 'Madjer' (word the French use for similar goals to the one he scored there).

That team won against Germany and Chile in worldcup 82, but it wasn't enough because of the 'match de la honte' http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Match_de_football_RFA_–_Autriche_(1982%2 9
Germany and Austria didn't play a game they settled for a score, and were booed by the spaniards, some were yelling 'Algeria'. It's because of that event that group matches in a tournament start at the same time.

Scored, then conceded and then retaliated without the opposition having a touch of the ball. Best Algerian generation by a mile, could have done wonders had they passed, they had the team for it.

who knew. so how come they haven't been any good since then? was it just a unique golden generation?
Before they invested into football, but then early Nineties happened (up to around 2002), it was called the black decade for the country. Civil war with Islamists, I don't think they thought much football at that time. the national team had to start from scratch at some point.

Before 82', they had an officious team (because Algerian players had to play for France) in around 58' (FLN's, front de libération nationale) if I recall which also beat Germany. Main star Rachid Mekhloufi, he played for Saint-Étienne. France wanted him at all cost.

82' was very unique tho.

I'm pretty sure Pires is retired now. But his parents are Spanish and Portuguese.
