Thought he had a good game, always picks it up in the second half. Needs to be starting in his favoured LCM position over Matuidi. Has superior passing and he is comfortable on the ball in dangerous areas. Won the ball back quite easily at times against Cagliari I thought. Just needs to show more improvement in the final third if he wants to make this position his own.

Yep. We're yet to see our (on paper) preferred midfield of Pjanic - Bentancur - Rabiot - Ramsey all at once.
Matuidi should NEVER start.

He's good physically and he's very calm and capable with the ball but I'm not convinced he's a player of much consequence in the final third. As in he doesn't look like a crack shot or very capable of supplying the final ball. Hopefully Bentancur can be that player for us and Rabiot can act as a nice counterweight.

Rabiot and Bentancur are quite similar. They both have good ability on the ball despite being tall players. However, they both lack end product. Neither will produce double digit goals or assists over a season.

If Rabiot and Bentancur are our two b2b midfielders, we need to have a elite attacking midfielder who can contribute 20 g+a per season, like Eriksen or Pogba.

Both Rabiot and Bentancur should have 1 or 2 goals a season just by getting into attacking areas and scoring headers. If Matuidi had that height he would have an extra 3 goals a season.

Strangely, I find Khedira and Can get into better attacking positions.

He honestly can be a better DM than Pjanić but it's a shame that he doesn't even want to play there

Sarri or someone should sit down and advise him that considering his skillsets and abilities, he's better suited to play in front of defense than as a B2B.

I only think he listens to mamma Rabiot. The few games I seen him play in front of the defense in PSG, he was a monster. Would not mind having him or Bentancur in front of defense, moving Pjanic further up the pitch or selling Pjanic to finance an elite btb/AM. Wont happen though.

He makes good runs forward.
so does matuidi.

it doesnt make him particularly effective there. from what ive seen of rabiot here and at psg the man's strengths are firmly in the center of the pitch. he is inclined to get forward but he is far from his best around the box. he lacks the final ball and also is a mediocre finisher

He makes good runs forward. Happened several times against Cagliari. For me he'd be wasted as dm
Even in other matches he seems the only player to bring the ball forward from defense.

Well unlike Matuidi, Rabiot can make a decent pass or dribble a player.

Why hate to say it? Rabiot is 3 years older and has a lot of experience, for Rodrigo it's the first season where it's clear for everybody that he is not a passenger, it's suppose to be that way.
I know I just wanted it to work for Bentancur, but I see Rabiot glimmering more on the pitch. Now I’m just crossing my fingers Rabiot doesn’t get swooped up to the premiere league.
