would help if you bothered to research a little before creating such a thread...I know Islam-bashing is the 'in' thing to do right now, but surely one can try harder
And you know that Abed was just saying his personal opinion on the matter, don't you?

If Eddy had decided to research a little before creating this thread, he would have found this, literally:

If you deem it best for the orphans, you may marry their mothers - you may marry two, three, or four. If you fear lest you become unfair, then you shall be content with only one, or with what you already have. Additionally, you are thus more likely to avoid financial hardship.[4:3]

Nothing is mentioned about it being an interim solution for a temporary case back then. So, one question, do you think we have to take Qoran literal meanings into consideration or Qoran is free to be adjusted by the time?

By the way, Nadine is just looking for attention.
:D

When I was studying in high-school, we were reading Qoran every morning in Ramadhans. Then there was that Sura and that Aya and you know how girls are like in that age. We were angrily asking our teacher "so why the women can't have four husbands at the same time?"
We were about to go on strike

You know what would be cool? If the man has four wives, and each of his wives have four husbands. They could make nice orgy once in a while. I would love to be part of that world.

we would sleep like this everyday :touched:

I'm Muslim, but I don't agree with the the principle that the man can marry more than one woman, and consequently, the woman can marry more than one man.
By the way, Nadine is just looking for attention.
Islam made the principle of having many wives in specific cases where many men are killed in wars, and the number of women is too high relatively to the number of living men. That is not the case now, so it does not apply. That is my take on that, at least.
I agree mostly, but I might add that if someone wants to marry one or two more times, that should be under the rule that those new marriages is to widowed, divorced or not young enough to have a normal marriage. Let me explain, around here in Saudi Arabia (not sure about other countries), ladies who are divorced, widowed or older than a certain age are not usually sought for marriage. All men around here, shamelessly, prefer young fresh women to refresh their stale lives. That's very sad, but that's how our society functions. That is one of things that I wish I could change around here! Anyway, as a result, those group of women don't usually have a good chance to get remarried and many go through life without a husband. And given the fact that ladies here aren't as socially nor financially active as their male counterparts, they don't really have the chance to live a good life. All of these reasons make me think that if a polygamist (or for IZ a polygynist) wants to marry again it should be one member of this unfortunate group of women.

Nope.

In Qur'an, slaves are called "ما ملكت الايمان". Even righteous muslim rulers had slaves through out history. But slavery in Islam is very different. It's legal but not regarded as good and whoever frees a slave is promised heaven according to Qur'an.
second that!

Some or actually most of the Khulafa'a in the Omayyad and Abassi periods used to drink and to have sex with prostitutes despite the fact that its prohibited in Islam so that hardly proves anything.

And just to make it clear, prophet Mohammad (ص) had a slave before Islam and then he freed him.
I'd like to read your sources! As far as I know, most known Caliphs didn't don any of that you're saying.

Exactly. Islam intended to end slavery as it was so common back then everywhere in the world. It wasn't easy to simply prohibit slavery once and for all. Similarly, drinking alcohol wasn't prohibited instantaneously.

Getting back to the topic, that's why I agree with Nadine. Slavery is rightly illegal now in all islamic laws and Polygyny should be also prohibited. Life now is very different as ReBeL noted in his post.
Yep! Can't agree more ..

woman can't marry more than one man... why you ask?

because she would have to fix too many sandwiches, for too many men. It's already a bitch to get the damn woman to stay in the kitchen to fix a sandwich for you, let alone now she has to do it for more than one man, so she would take longe to get you the sandwich.

now here lies the brilliance of islam, since us guys are always hungry, having more than one wife means more sandwhices. Hell fucking yes! high five islam for getting something right (besides foursomes, of course)

Dusan take note you hungry horny fucker.

How kind. Once again, I wasn't looking for research, I was looking for opinions on the matter. If you can't see what I asked for in my first original post, then don't post.

Forget I wrote that, I got pretty confused and still am. Either way Hoori, in present times is this scenario (the quote) likely to happen now ? Would the other wife allow it to happen or does it even happen at all ?

The quote is from Qoran Eddy. Based on this quote, men are allowed to marry four women at the same time. It's not easy for men to have four wives though (financially speaking) so it rarely happens here but there are lots of men who have two wives at the same time and nothing can the first woman do about it.

The quote, "If you deem it best for the orphans, you may marry their mothers". Excuse my ignorance but how the hell do you marry an orphan's mother if an orphan isn't supposed to have a mother nor father. Or is there another meaning to it ?

The orphan is the kid who lost at least one of his parents, not necessarily both.
