WTF No DeRossi? And Desciglio/Abate as LWB? Oh and Giac was used as Wingback in the first game against Spain. I don't know what that line-up will do if it goes a goal down with 5 defenders? Sit there like against Bayern.

? I support all the Italian players at this level. Monto isn't any worse than the rest out there barring Balotelli.

Totti would be great for the next WC but he would have to miss half a season to stay fresh enough. He was in great form early but seemed to fade badly in the last part of the campaign.

This. I think they'll have depth in the mid/attack once Insigne, Verratti, even Florenzi comes through but to not really have a WC CB besides maybe Chiellini is incredible for Italy. Sure, they could switch to 3 but that leaves us vulnerable to pressing teams because our back 3 are weak on...

It's been like that since I've been watching (~20 years) I don't think it will ever change.

No he's definitely not keen. He don't think you can counter-attack your way through a big tournament and I agree. Besides, Prandelli was brought in to make Italy an attacking/expressive team after the dour **** of 2010. They can go hire Trappatoni if you want catenaccio back.

Prandelli is still experimenting. Italy no longer has the WC back 4 to rely on so he's building it to score goals. Abate (average) - Barzagli (slow) - Chiellini (good) - Deshiglio (too young) and Buffon (getting old). That's a tough situation he's in.
