Depressing thread, not a single world class player (SMS being the closest) mentioned and it still seems unrealistic.

Priority sales in order: Ramsey (nominal fee), Rabiot (25-30mil)
Secondary sales in order (only if replacement lined up): Bentancur (30-35/2=15-17.5mil), McKennie (30-35mil), Arthur(30-35mil)

Recall: Rovella, Fagioli
Priority youth signing (30-50mil): Tchouameni, Gravenbach, etc.
Priority WC mid signing (50-90mil): Pogba (free transfer, high wages), SMS, Barella, Kante, etc.

We sign 2 starting level mids: one is a long term young signing with high upside, one is an immediate quality raiser at the peak of their career. We get a massive relief in wages if we can offload the likes of Ramsey and Rabiot, and I believe we can get an acceptable transfer fee still for almost all mids bar Ramsey. With player sales and the free transfer of Pogba and loanees returning, we could have a very competitive squad with minimal money spent, mainly on the young mid acquisition:

A mid:
----Gravenbach--Locatelli--Pogba-----

B mid:
---Rovella--Arthur--Fagioli/McKennie--

how? barella is playing for a stronger team, he's an interista and probably hates juve (which is a thing in italy, whether you like it or not). pellegrini loves roma, he's their captain and just recently extended his contract until 2025 or '26, with no release clause. add sms, and you have the impossible great midfield trio.
Mourinho will burn Roma to the ground Nero style, which makes me think Pellegrini might be attainable. Roma has a big player turnover as well, their team 3 years ago and today are two completely different teams.
Inter is in shambles financially, did you read the loan agreement they struck with Oaktree in spring? Lukaku and Hakimi sales were just the start, not the solution to their problem. Barella might be available for 40-50m, which is reasonable given that he'll have a lower salary than Rabiot or Ramsey and will have resale value in the future.

Agreed on SMS, we've tried that in the past, it wasn't possible and nothing has changed since then.

both of these players have a special status at their club. mou will be fired before pellegrini is on the market. pellegrini's contract was gonna expire, he could have waited for a good offer on his own terms to earn much more money, but he chose to extend. he's their new crown jewel, just like barella for inda. i'd have loved to have him on a free, or even at his previous release clause, but he's there to stay, for an other few years at least.

inda have issues, but it looks like suning is able to finance their season. also, even if the borderline impossible happens and barella is getting sold, we won't be able to have a deal with him. it's like lion's obsession with insigne lol. these guys would never wear our jersey. you can quote me on this, this is one of the cases when i'm happy to be proven wrong. barella would be a top3 player for me if i could pick anyone from any team. i just don't see it happening in this lifetime. 40-50m, only if beppe didn't learn his lesson from the vidal sale lol (but it looks like he did, look at how much they made chelsea to pay for lukaku)

could be that I'm too optimistic here and I don't even feel that strongly about Barella :D

I realize we might need someone with experience in midfield, considering we have a bunch of pussies and two young players with potential in Locatelli and McNuggets.

Ideally, I'd go for someone like Tielemans, supported by one of Tchouameni/Gravenberch and Locatelli, with Rovella and McNuggets/Arturd backing them up. Once Fagioli and Ranocchia have enough Serie A experience, they can be used in rotation as well.

This would require selling Fagiot, getting rid of Glassmsey's wages, and selling two of Bentancur, McNuggets and Arturd, which I don't think is feasible.

There are so many good mids available on frees as well, with Kamara and Zakaria coming to mind.

Don't confuse optimism with delusion :p :b81:

Let's sign Dele Alli from spurs. He's motivated, skilled, eats healthy and sleeps well. A total professional in the profession he's practicing. Bring Pogba in, then let's say we bring some Brazilian overhyped copacapana joggler to combine our middlefield of 3.
