I would if I had more time, truthly I have never 'learned' Italian in the way you think, it is more I learned it by going to Italy and my mum, who often speaks English and Italian mixed together.

Solution:Learn Italian! :lazy: :D
I already have but Italy has too many dialects. You will ALWAYS suffer a short transition period when you move to Italy; even if your Italian is fluent.

And I'm near fluent - my teacher said so :strong:

Her and no - that can't be done. She actually IS Italian and so bloody proud of her language she wants all of us to speak it fluently. REALLY fluently!

Yeah when I have that it's because nerves play up. That's why I fear the first week when I'll be there. God knows they don't speak any English/German down there whatsoever so I'll be left to cruel fate :D

Teacher? You learn Italian in school? We had the choose of German or French, I ill-fatedly choose German, mainly because we had this right b*****f as a teacher...and after 5 years of German, I can say 'Guten Tag' and 'Ich bin einzelkin'

University. At Highschool we are obliged to learn English, French and German. Dutch literature too but that's no biggie compared to the foreign language bit:D

I'd fail badly, I suck at all types of foriegn languages, which is why I bow to everyone who can speak many languages, like in Holland I was surprised but like 70% of people speak fluent English, and then there is the Scandinavians, who can all speak like 5 languages, my brain would just melt...

Where as, remarkably. I'm a litte genius at Maths, despite the fact that it was insanely boring...I'm amazed myself, I have 9 GCSEs of mainly Cs, despite doing almost zlinch coursework for Science, Maths, Geography and IT!

I can see how you get that impression but it's not actually true. These languages have many similarities so I can speak Norwegian and a Swedish person would understand me, that doesn't mean I speak Swedish. Danish is tougher to get because the sound is so raw, you really have to listen well to make out the words. I've never come across a language quite like Danish. Icelandic is a long way off, it's a variation of old norse and similar to what Norwegian was before the plague, 400 years ago. It's not understandable to me.

But English sure, we're way behind the Dutch but Scandinavians still have a quite decent command of English.

I knew they were similar, and that is why I though many could speak it, so your saying it is like an English person talking to someone from Scotland? :D
