Matteo Brighi playing as a left full back since when
Well, that's a tactical theorem that I've been working with for a while. It's my ascertion that defensive midfielders, who play on one side or the other, would make great fullbacks when put in the right formation. If you'll notice, the entire backline is very pacey and I have Heinze shifted forward, as he has the ability to act as both an offensive defender and a defenisve midfielder. Mexes also has great pace and that allows him to cover the middle of the field fairly well. You'll probably also notice that I have great two-way player ont he wings in Brett Emerton and John O'brien, and they will together assist the defence, BTw they are also quite pacey. This defensive set up basically allows for a three playmaker system where Cole and Van der Meyde act as both wingers and playmekrs, depending upon the position of O'brien and Emerton. Also, this allows for one side, the other, or both the be overloaded very quickly to creat space in the middle. I've put Van istelrooij in to handle headers and Donovan in because he is quick and a good finisher, but also distributes exceptionally well.
