A few points not related to each other:

1. I doubt Liverpool are willing to sell him.

2. Signing Alonso would mean Ranieri is gone (in all probability).

3. It would be hard to convince Alonso to join a club that denounced him as too slow a year ago (even if it was only Ranieri that said it).

4. We need to strengthen the defence if we are to play Alonso in a 4-4-2.

I think they will sell him this summer though. I just hope Real goes for someone else.

Pretty much, yeah. I still think we'll replace Ranieri so that's another plus for this transfer.

I think it was a lame exuse to calm the fans down a bit. I don't think he'd mind it.

Well it would be Sissoko-Alonso but yes, we need stronger defense...well, we need better defense in any case.

Barry is gonna be a Pool player this summer... Aston Villa had the chance to qualify for CL this season and they blew it... Next season its gonna be even more tough for them to challenge for the CL spot and Barry wants to play in the CL...

Juventus in new move to take Xabi Alonso from Liverpool

Juventus will return with a fresh bid for Xabi Alonso - encouraged by Liverpool's need to sell before buying.

Rafa Benitez has England star Gareth Barry among his prime targets again when the transfer window opens.

The Anfield club were set to sell Spaniard Alonso last summer to finance the Barry deal, which eventually collapsed over Aston Villa's £17million asking price.

Juventus came so close to signing Alonso, who could command a fee as high as £15m, but then had to take the cheaper option of Seville's Christian Poulsen - a move which has flopped.

Agent Ernesto Bronzetti, Juve's Mr Fixit, confirmed last night: "I will try and bring in Alonso for the Juventus central midfield.

Hah, I doubt it will happen at all. Simply put, last year was our best and dare I say, last chance of signing him to Juve but we decided to spend less money on Poulsen. :melayyanandmessi:

Now since Liverpool have a clear idea of his worth, they would be completely reluctant to let him go.

Sure, I'd love Alonso to join, but I doubt he will. If this rumour were true, it would just show that the guru et al. are scrambling now after they dug themselves a 10 million euro hole last year through their stubborness and frugality.

IMO Alonso would be a huge signing for us!
I prefer him to Diego, because with him we could play 4-3-3 and with Diego we will need the 4-4-2 formation so that he could be SS, and that means, NO GIOVINCO!!
