if he goes as well as they say, he will be as a new transfer...

for alonso now...

mr seco is the doomest or the most clever man of the world...

he may have made the most clever trivk i have ever seen gith the "purchase" of poulsen...

or we may have lost one of the easyest tranfsers ever...

we' ll see...
But Tiago is nowhere near world class.

What Ranieri makes of the squad at his disposal is something that should be kept in mind too.Everyone is assuming that Giovinco is in to play on the left side, but that's not what Ranieri might have in mind.I already posted this a few pages back.Ranieri might be considering Giovinco as the team's main creative and playmaking force, which is what might explain not buying Alonso(If that is the case.I still think we'd sign him,but if we dont,it could be because of Giovinco's creative talent).

I havent followed Stankovic too much,so i dont know if he can play on the left wing, but he's a versatile player, and maybe Ranieri sees him as a potential replacement for Nedved.

Camo--Sissoko---Giovinco--Stankovic

Ranieri could have this midfield setting in mind.Maybe he trusts Giovinco more than we think.

Giovinco could play in a central role, in front of the midfield. But never in the midfield like that. Alonso and Giovinco are nothing alike.
Alonso dictates the (flow of the game and the)play from his own half, while Giovinco is an assist man and plays on the edge of the box.

If you use Giovincos as main creative force, then you would play him as trequartista. There is no reason you do not buy a holding DM/regista like Xabi because of a trequartista. Its like Milan wouldnt play with Pirlo because of Kaka, or Barca wouldnt play with Xavi because of Ronaldinho.

There is like a solid 30-40 meters difference in where Giovinco plays, and Xabi would play (they both play in the hole so to speak, Giovinco in the hole infront of the midfield, behind the forwards, while Xabi plays infront of the defence). Dont over think it, they arent competing for the same spot when they play centrally, not even close.

And btw, Stankovics WORST posititon he is he quite bad in is left wing, defenitely his weakest, in quite obvious way. He is versatile, but doesnt mean he is good there just because he has played there.

Ofcourse Alonso and Giovinco arent competing for the same spot. The issue here is creative force.Im just making a wild guess here, but Ranieri might feel that Giovinco can give us the creativty that we need, and hardworking midfielder like Stankovic would do the team more good than a deep lying playermaker like Alonso.

Okidoki then (you put Giovinco as a CM in your 4-4-2 lineup so it was confusing), well lets hope Ranieri isnt thinking that, because he would have to be blind to miss our grave need for players who can plays, especially grave to ditch him for the likes of Stankovic..

I said that this was a dream of mine...

If Tiago after all is so good as they say...

Sidwell to Villa --> Barry To Liverpool --> Alonso to Juventus!
I hope...

Come on...

We can't play CL with a 21 years old as our main vreative force...

i don't want to be the pessimist but i think a lot of you guys have unrealistic opinions about giovinco. I'm not questioning his skill or his ability, but remember that he's young, he's unproven (for big squads), he has a lot of pressure on him and he lacks physical strength. I think those who see him as our new trequartista or something are just wrong. It's his first season with us, and he plays on a delicate spot in our formation; all i hope is that he gets a fair amount of playing time. I'm not expecting any more of him. I don't see him playing behind our strikers because that's just not what we do. We don't have a trequartista. I see him on the Left flank but it's not like he will be the one who will wins us the CL (as much as i'd hope him to be it, you gotta be realistic)
That being said, i think we're very dependent on nedved's and camo's performances. in my opinion we'll play with a 4-4-2, just like last season with, in midfield one DM, one CM, and 2 wingers. Then, in case we need more power going forward, giovinco could come in for the DM/CM and we'd be more offensive

:agree: Gio is great but its a big risk to depend totally on him next season. I think that gio will be very usefull next season but we need more creative players in the team. Alonso (or any player similar to him) will be very usefull to us next season. Pray to god that we don't buy another DM (poulsen).......

I've been reading several posts on this page and you could be right about a more central position for Giovinco
something more like a 4-3-1-2 perhaps?
the possibilities are endless
Stankovic may be better suited for this tactical scheme but Xabi could do well too

gio is best behind the strikers he is a classic n10 providing dazzling play and defense splitting passes not a left winger, I'm worried he won't suceed if C.R plays him on the left wing all the time.

I know what you are saying but I still doubt Giovinco will be a starter for some reason.

Del Piero---------trezeguet
----------Giovinco----------

Zanetti---Momo----Camo

I think something like that would work as Zanetti would add the defensive cover we would need

but Stankovic could also play in Zanetti or Camo's position. Or be played as a trequartista (Giovinco's position in that line up), like he used to do for Lazio before he went to Inter. Similarly Nedved could also be put into that position.

With the players we have Ranieri has soo many options for our set up and that is what he wants. To make adjustments and "tinker" ...
