We should have signed a quality central midfielder 1st thing, before Amauri. We managed to secure Amauri because we put in a decent effort to sign him and didn't give up. We also had some positive things in our favour (young players, Zamparini, Amauri's preference). With Liverpool we don't have that and we just can't compete with Real Madrid if they offer more (and they can offer way more) and if the player doesn't specifically want to join us. I don't think the board is much at fault here. I would be disappointed if we don't get him, however.

the fame of juve should be far enough to sign any world class players
