Montolivo has really struggled for bigger parts of this season. His talent is undisputed, but he has failed to be the leader/standout player of Fiorentina midfield. Players like Kuzmanovic, Donadel, Liverani, Jorgensen all outperformed him. He has the right environment to do good but he failed. On the other hand, he was brilliant for Fiorentina in Uefa Cup. If we go by his performances there, then he would be an amazing purchase. Unfortunately, in Serie A his performances were much less impressive.

Montolivo is 23.He knows Italian football,he is young but experienced. He just needs a stronger team.

same goes for Aquilani.

Alonso is 27.He did not play in Italy. He did well in England mostly because of Rafael Benitez.

if their price is same I would go for Montolivo.Alonso is bigger gamble.
Why Fabregas doesn`t want to leave?!
It could have been amazing to see him at Juve

Have you even watched Fiorentina games in Serie A? Most Fiorentina fans would disagree with you.

Oh and we will not get Xabi. He is not coming to Italy.

My preference is Montolivo, Aquilani, Xabi Alonso in that order.

Xabi Alonso is most experienced, but the least Serie A proven... all three have positive European competition experience. I think Montolivo could be the best of the bunch, but his form has been a little suspect. Aquilani would cost an arm and a leg... I think Montolivo and Alonso would be the most reasonably priced, though still in the 15m euro range.

Would Fiorentina even sell Montolivo?I dont think so.Talent needs to be considered, but what also needs to be a part of the equation is availability.Alonso is available.Montolivo, for the moment atleast, isnt.

why dont we just go for montolivo or aquilani? they are young, italian, one has uefa cup experience and the other has CL., not to mention have mass potential? AND have serie A experience. how much would montolivo cost? it makes us look better when we have more italians on our squad, i dont want to end up like inter or even milan. xabi is a great gamble but worth the risk or investment? how drastic would we have to change our system with vDv and how would that effect our talent coming back? i dont want to see another player we are associated with get snapped up by our rivals, lets face it...flamini with milans current midfield lineup is crazy. what would xabi bing to the table that montolivo, aquilani, or vDv couldnt? just curious....

young talent need to get CL experience sooner or later, right? everyone has to start somewhere.

Yes it can be said about Aquilani too.But Montolivo's time at Fiorentina appears to be going smoother than Aquilani and Alonso. No contract disputes,no new purchases who might knock him off the lineup etc.Aquilani and Alonso are in the center of both, which makes them easier targets. But easier, especially in Aquilani's case,is not that easy.Especially for an Italian club.

I'd go for Kuzmanović if it's possible.

The thing about Xabi is he is at his peak in terms of age and would make us immediate competitors in the CL and Serie A. I am not sure the others would do the same.

I still don't see him coming to Italy but he is the type of player who would be a success at Juve. He has the right technical skill and ability to get stuck in.

Fiorentina are bursting with talent.Donadel,Kuzmanović,Pazzini,Motolivo..

If these players stay there a few more years,Fiorentina could turn into monsters.

Donadel is 25 years old, thats not a talent :p. But i agree they have many players to build a team around.

And it seems hard to buy from them. Della Valle family with the magical Corvino

And Prandelli who is a very good coach, they have very good people in their club.

Maby is good that Viola is missing the CL. Milan will always be a threat with or without CL, Viola would be more powerfull if they got the money and shit from CL.

Montolivo's wages are peanuts though compared to Alonso's, inevidably creating options.

Montolivo's style is more suited to replace Nedved than it is to partner sissoko.

Fiorentina need a few seasons in the CL before they can become serious trophy contenders.I think if Prandelli stays in charge for a while, they will definatley become a force to be reckoned with.

But would Fiorentina offload someone of his talent so soon?I think he's going to be at Fiorentina for the next 3-4 seasons, atleast.Unless ofcourse someone makes a massive offer for him.If we're going to spend big bucks on a player it should be one of Aquilani or Alonso,so we have a solution to our stale central midfield.Giovinco can hande the left flank.

I've presented this paradox before. The CL next season would kill Fiorentina, but a CL-less season would destroy any progress Fiorentina hope to make.

I don't know if I heard incorrectly, but didn't Prandelli put Montolivo at wingback for a while? He's quite versatile, if that's true of course.
