Hey yall im a new member! its nice to finally talk to all of yall! i have been reading your posts forever and now i decided i wanna get into the talking :). I think Alonso will join. IMO he was just trying to revert from the questions on his club football during the EURO's so he would be more focused and ready to help Spain win the title. I expect to hear news in the matter of days about his contract. If we cant get Alonso how bout we snatch up Lucho? I think he is a really good player IMO.

welcome JuveYank.

As for Lucho,it would probably not happen for a few reasons:

1- We don't have enough money to buy 2 Central midfielders, especially with our defense still weak.

2- Lucho would cost quiet a lot because Porto always charge big amounts for their important players

3- Xabi would be quite enough to complete the puzzle in the midfield. With him we would have 4 CMs. That is more than enough CMs. Camo, Sali, and Nedved can play there in case of an injury crisis.

Ya i didnt think about Porto's insane prices. I really want Xabi but i really am anxious to see if it goes through. How stupid is Secco to not realize how good of a player and how well he could help are team. Stankovic is not the answer!

That's a bit of a wet dream (transfer-wise) for us isn't it?

Pool will increase the cost and Xabi will ask a high salary which we will not pay for sure.
why? because he played 10 minutes in the euro-finals? I'm pretty sure his price hasn't changed because of the euros. It was pretty high before already (nothing new out of the Epl) and i see no reason why pool should add more money, if so, we're doing the right thing by looking for alternatives. I mean we're not completely dependent from them. As far as i know there are no other bidders for xabi, and as far as the media reported, it was all clear that he wanted to leave, that he wanted to come to us, and that everyone had found an agreement. If now someone believes to play the clever, that fuck it; honestly i'd prefer taking stankovic over being pulled over the table by pool/xabi. But i don't think it will happen anyway. Let's bet on it; i say it wil be done with xabi by friday. :D :D

are u sure u watched Milito last year? he was just awful. lets just say that he is Barca's Boumsong
Indeed, he was...
But Andrade was even worst, Milito could have helped more than Andrade, so tactic wise he was the better choice, being younger and having more years ahead of him to offer his services and furthermore increase his skills, make him a better strategical choice too. Whatever player we bring, we are assuming a risk, the point is that, we are not making the right choices...

If we want a quality player, we are just gonna have to spend some green - Theres no option imo. And especially in light of having spent a 23 million total on a less necessary Amauri, I would not forgive this board for letting a Xabi deal fall through because of a shortfall in the money they are willing to pay.

Forget that he's Interisti, getting Stank (who definately isnt as good imo and 4 years older too) as our supposed midfield missing puzzle piece would be nothing short of disaster. A guy like Stank isnt a player you can rely to build your midfield game around anymore. Hes good to have as back-up and thats about it for me

agree wholeheartedly. but still; we shouldn't act any worse than we are. Liverpool want this deal just as much as we do, so if everyone is willing to make an effort, we'll do it. Imagine we made a (verbal) deal with pool for 18mio, and all of a sudden, pool says they want 5mio more or something because he 'played at the euros'. Should this be the case, i think our board is right to turn that offer down. Either pool see what's going on, or we leave it. It's important that we don't just accept everything, because no matter how good he turns out to be, that's a whole lot of money for a non-starter-player (neither in pool, nor in spain nt). But don't get me wrong, i'm all for xabi, he'll probably JUST what we need, and i hope (and think) we'll make this deal!
But it's no use looking for scapegoats if this deal collapses - If pool or xabi are making trouble, then we HAVE to look for alternatives (alone for the fact to put pressure on them, it was so obvious that newspapers are full of rumours linking us with CMs).
Again; i don't want stankovic, and i believe xabi alonso would be one of the best midfielders available for our needs, but we HAVE to consider that stankovic will probably be 1/3 of xabi's price, with also something around 1/2 the salary. That's A LOT of money...

according to this thread from vecchiasignora.com...

vecchiasignora.com said:
... Xabi is due to have his medicals tomorrow. The information is coming directly from the hospital where juventus supposedly has announced to perform the tests. They state that it's the same person who also leaked early information about Almiron & Tiago last year. It has been confirmed in the thread itself by some 'informant' they have. I'm positive, guys!!!

Edit: I just read that the date of tomorrow could also have economical reasons, because as of tomorrow, a new fiscal year will have started, so that the cost of his transfer can be put on next year's expense (i'm not too familiar with all this, but you get the principle) which will leave us with a much more positive season-ending for this (concluded) season

We have to wait untill Pool have secured Barry. I think they're waiting for that deal to go through, and are afraid that if they sell Xabi now, Villa will not lower their price because they'll know Pool will be desperate then. So I think we have to patient for a couple of days more. I read today that Villa would sell Barry but Pool had to pay what they are asking for, so lets hope they pay up soon...
