I, too, see where you're coming from. But to be honest, I don't know if I could handle this country if it suddenly turned to "soccer fever". Many of the things that I truly enjoy about the sport would probably be ruined if it suddenly became a U.S. fad like televised poker.
Whiney, self-absorbed announcers making dog noises in attempts to feign excitement. Major play stoppages to push commercials for beer, trucks, and financial services every 10 minutes. A championship cup they'd probably call the "World Championship Cup", eventhough no teams outside of North America would be allowed to participate. Fear mongering about the influence of overseas countries and cultures on red-white-and-blue blooded 'Mericans.
Is it any wonder I've come to hate so many American sports so much? It's not like Europe or South America, etc., haven't found their own ways to damage the sport of soccer either. But I think an American surge in soccer interest could possibly be the beginning of the end for me...at least in this country.
So with the advent of the Internet and satellite TV and global travel, I'd much rather follow my Juve games from half-way across the globe and have all those retards continue to ask me if my Kappa warm-up has the silver painted ladies from 18-wheeler mud flaps on it. Let them be ignorant and hateful about soccer and stay that way -- and stay out of my way. They can have all the baseball they want, and I'll never have to get in line behind them for it.

its been a couple years since i been back to the states.....as far as i remember Baseball was a big thing specially since i lived in st. louis....it was cardinals all the way...football or soccer whatever you want to call it was a big thing their they had all types of rec leauges select teams , the whole shinaningens...i played with this select team for a season (Busch) and also made the junior oylimpic tean(practiced with them never played because i came here) but to tell u the truth i never felt that the americans have grassped the game, they still dont have the passion like the rest of the world does. Untill then thier mls leauge will still be a pathetic attempt....i cant watch it for more then 10 seconds at a time....its like horse racing,wwf, and golf all in to one....mls needs an Extreme makeover so that the fans can start watchint football like the rest of the world and not soccer......by the way who is in the world series this year??
couldn't agree more and btw, World Series is over I think, White Sox won.its not that america sucks....i was born and raised their till i was 21 then went overseas...the thing i noticed was that americans there dont adapt well to foreign cultures unlike those who have traveled or have aquainted themselves with other cultures....the passion for football will not be seen during an mls game because the fans have not fully accepted thats all....in due time change should come around.....btw i heard the biatches in N. Korea are really tight!!
Don't be so quick to generalize. There are over six Americans on this board who love the sport and millions of others who share a passion for it just like we do. If you go up and ask some average guy on the street he probably would not be able to tell you what Juventus is, however while more people pay attention to other sports the States has to offer, many Americans hold soccer as their favorite. Of course the most knowledgable about the game will follow European football like me, however there are different interpretations of "understanding" the sport...fans like me who have played the sport since I was a little kid have a pretty solid grasp of it. The average American would probably not know much about the sport, however generalizations labelling the country as a whole are sometimes inaccurate.
The MLS may be pathetic when compared to Serie A, however you must remember that the league has only been in existence for just over 10 years and is improving as every season chugs along. Blasting the MLS for being a joke compared to the top leagues in this world IS a joke...you cant expect it to be on top of the world with only limited experiance. Give it a chance to develop and over time the league will become more exciting with better quality football. That said, I only really watch the DC United matches.
