So that's great reasoning to send the event to a random Arab country with only one major city and an Emir with billions of dollars to blow.

Sorry, no sale. You're better with the body scanners, dude. Perhaps Chertoff will offer you a job.

no we just find it odd that a country that no one know of footballistically and smaller than michael jordan's backyard gets to organize the world cup. It is in all senses as ridiculous as some billinonaire buying nauru and winning the bid to organize the winter olympics there. I will stop my whining when anyone outside the area confirms they know someone famous from there thats how big of a joke this thing is. Fuck fifa for trying really hard to ruin this game.

Dude, I was living in Palo Alto when the World Cup came to me. It was fun, but IMO, it's better to go somewhere. In the U.S. in '94, most of the celebration came from the tourists and the locals acted mostly clueless. Granted, soccer interest has changed a lot here since then. but to contrast this with the experience in South Africa this year where all the locals were into whatever teams were left -- there is absolutely no comparison.

Believe me on this, filling stadiums during 2022 world cup won't even be an Issue. There are almost an open borders between Qatar and the other 5 GCC countries with a total population of around 40 millions in that region alone. There will sure be guarantees that stadiums will be filled during the tournament.

The weather was an issue before, but they already found away to fix that problem:

"Each of the five stadiums will harness the power of the suns rays to provide a cool environment for players and fans by converting solar energy into electricity that will then be used to cool both fans and players at the stadiums. When games are not taking place, the solar installations at the stadia will export energy onto the power grid. During matches, the stadia will draw energy from the grid. This is the basis for the stadiums’ carbon-neutrality. Along with the stadiums, we plan to make the cooling technologies we’ve developed available to other countries in hot climates, so that they too can host major sporting events.

Such cooling techniques will be able to reduce temperatures from 40 to 20 degrees Celsius, which would be comfortable for players and spectators during matches, the bid also proposes these cooling technologies to be used in fan-zones, training pitches and walkways between Metro stations & stadiums"
They will spend around $50 billions to host that event. For a country that small (thats pretty much a "huge" number).

Like i've said, people who still have doubts are in for a surprise :eyebrows:

Russia is a perfectly valid choice for a WC. Personally I'd have preferred England, but Russia will still put on a good show. But something is a bit up with this bid, Putin knew a few days before they were going to win the rights to host it.

Qatar's selection, however, is a fucking joke. No football history/culture, shit all population, one major city and airport, 50 degree temperature, basically ignoring most of FIFA's so called criteria. Lets see if they can really build all these stadiums with all this cooling technology. They cant air condition a whole counry though. This bid is clear corruption of the worst kind that only FIFA can be capable of. Money talks I guess. I hope all those cock sucking money grubbing ExCo members enjoy the millions of dollars in their Cayman Islands offshore accounts. Disgusting.

And no, I am not against a WC being held in the Middle East. Qatar is just about the worst choice for a location though.

FUCK FIFA, FUCK SEPTIC BLADDER AND FUCK MOHAMMED BIN HAMMAM.

Greedy leechfucks.

I went to one of the first NFL games in the new Ford Field, the Detroit Lions' stadium. It's state of the art. But during the first two seasons, they had trouble managing their air circulation system. Hot air ended up being pumped outside of the arena because of a simple misjudging of concourse traffic. And this was one of the most carefully designed arenas in the world.

I'll believe the success when, or if, I see it. Cutter fans think all it takes is money, but we all know it takes more than that. I don't trust no friggin' Emir.

The burden of proof is on you lot.

I would rather drive a spike through my eye than see the same nations host the World Cup every few year.

For all the bitching that England has done (A. Like the rest of the world owes them shit, B. that we all don't get the EPL crammed down our throats worldwide on a daily basis, C. that we already had a WC there in '66, D. that England pissed away the first few WCs out of their own foolishness to begin with) -- the U.S. hosted as recently as '94. That's ridiculous, really.

And while Brazil will host it a second time in '14, South America naturally fucks up and needs a backup.

And most people likely have no idea that soccer is Qatar's most popular sport.

Russian women alone warrant a reason to choose Russia over Qatar.
Nah. All the good Russian women have been exported to brothels in other countries.

Absolutely not. A lot of those so called Russian escorts are actually Ukranian & most drunk horny men can't tell the difference.

During the WC we had a business expo & you should have seen the Russian salesladies. I would sacrifice my house to spend a month with them.

Bin Hammam certainly seems an influential individual, looks set to be the next president.

The funniest thing in all this is that Qatar was given the highest risk rating only two weeks ago, but FIFA couldn't resist. One thing comes above all else.

It doesn't matter if it's Qatar's most popular sport. It's probably Mozambique's most popular sport as well. No, what matters is that Qatar obviously bought this World Cup. Qatar really doesn't have that much to offer in terms of cities and atmosphere. Why prepare a bid when the thing is going to be bought anyway?

What if the draw was between England and Colombia, Greg? Or how about someone like Iraq?

You're thumbing your nose at the actual criteria behind the bid, looking at this situation as a spite other of nations that have more merit in hosting a World Cup. And that's not really proper.
