2006 was ok quality wise and below average entertainment wise.

1998 is the real deal, no world cup comes even close.
1994 was amazing. I rate it with 98. The knockout rounds were so damn good in 94.

Of the world cups I have been old enough to actually watch, '94 and '98 are the best, with 2006 and now perhaps 2018 the next level.

'02, '10, '14 were all terrible. And I wasn't really old enough to judge '90.

2022 is going to be even worse. Imagine football in 110 weather :disagree:

Kiss ass

Anyways, I love this World Cup and I really wish I had gone. One for the ages
I would, but the line is too damn long.

On a serious note, i was impressed by Iran, they were hard done by in the final game. If only Belgium would play from organisation like that.

I was 8 in 1982 and I still remember it, my first world cup. 1986 sucked with Maradona stealing the highlights. 1990 was very good quality wise.

1994 is second after 1998 from the ones I have seen, the only thing that makes 1998 better is that it was a better team that won it and ZZ.

I totally agree about 02, 10 and 14 but amongst those three 2014 was a notch better.

What's your opinion on this one?
Entertainment wise, really great. The level of football played is a bit low. I am afraid it will suck in the end as in having to see Brazil or England winning it as I see them as strong favourites now.

Yeah. I was 6 for 1990, and remember loving it, but that may just be the wonder of watching my first world cup.

I'm a sucker for Baggio and Romario, which is part of why I rate '94 so high. Those two were incredible. @CrimsonianKing Only the final was kind of disappointing.

'98 was pretty spectacular. '98 final was disappointing too though. If Ronaldo had shown up, it would have been a great final. Whatever happened to him before the final, him dramatically falling out of form like he did really made the final a disappointment. If he was in the form he was in for the rest of that tournament, that final would have been a lot closer and more exciting.

That's because it was around the 00s when club football took over. The World Cup was never about 'unity and culture,' save that garbage for the Olympics. Back then the World Cup was about seeing the very best players playing against each other. But since then, the quality of the international football simply declined and club football improved. Perhaps changing it into a 32 team format was a mistake?

Edit

I did like 2014 though, although 2006 was better. I look at the teams in 2018 and I think meh to be honest.

This World Cup has been extremely entertaining imo (the most fun I’ve had watching since 2006, easily) but I feel like the overall quality of football is the lowest I’ve seen in a while.
I find “quality of football” to be a fairly subjective term tho. There’s been plenty of teams playing entertaining footballl, it’s just that they haven’t been the usual big teams which is what a lot of people expect.
