Sure, a valid tactic. But I think it makes more sense to go for the result then, rather than throw on a Cuadrado to just defend some more. Why have any subs at all other than for injury then?

If i had to guess i would say it's because the third sub was often unused as most coaches would rather leave it than play with 10 in case injury happens and all 3 subs are already used.
Thanks to this extra sub coach can use 3 subs with no regrets.
