That's true. I like VAR. But you can't rely on VAR the way this guy did.

If VAR is executed properly, the referees' competency would become rather irrelevant, which is great. Also, big teams and big stadiums won't affect the decisions. The referee was poor obviously but even he couldn't affect the result although he tried.

Some of them are actually pretty good tbh. I wouldn't paint all of the 3rd world refs with the same brush.

So the ref fucked Marocco? Before the second goal of Spain he pointed to the left (bottom) side, while Spain executed it from the right (top) side. All the players of marocco and also the ref look to the left, while Spain takes it from the right and scores.

Then the ref decides to give the goal. WTF?

And that's why VAR is a great thing to have. I hope they develop better rules to prevent constant complaining etc (it's executed perfectly in volleyball). Var made today's incompetent ref to not have hurt any of the ttwo teams with his decisions.

In itself VAR is great. But it's obvious that it's new and it'll take a bit of time to work out the kinks. The Swedes not getting a penalty v Germany, Mitrovic who was wrestled down by two Swiss players with impunity, Piqué not getting red carded today.. Often the mistake seems to be that the VAR is too scared to interfere.

Yeah maybe I shouldn't generalise, but the level of high quality games with intensity in their general domestic leagues is lacking. Every league has intense games, Egypt for example goes way over the mark at times, but it's no standard.

The mixture of VAR with FIFA's participation protocol is not a good one, it randomises games, and with it results.

That said I hated the breaks in play. I would honestly rather tolerate dodgy calls on the field for the sake of continuity. The people who argue the dodgy calls most vehemently are just fat slobs watching on TV, who have zero experience with what happens on the pitch and in real time, and they don’t deserve that kind of exhausted treatment in my book.
