Costa Rica made it to the quarters last time around. With Italy and Netherlands out there'll be even more underdogs around that stage in the tournament. Denmark could be one of them :klin: WC is open so far, I could see one or two of the big boys exiting prematurely.
Denmark could, but we won't. We have two ways to win: Eriksen dominating or strong organisation and winning on our physical advantage, both are highly unliekly.

But hey give me a World Cup upset anyday :p

- - - Updated - - -

they could, but checking the draw for the knockout stage, they should beat either spain or portugal to cause a real upset and make it to the semifinal. i wouldn't bet on that.

btw the only time they met spain at the world cup, this happened:

...and before that, denmark won their group ahead of west germany who went on to play the final. that was a very good danish team, despite the result against spain.
That nordic style football :baus:

I love the second round of these big tournaments. There is no fear or caution, typical of round 1, and there are almost no calculations, typical of round 3.

There will be 3-4 huge matches this round, most of all the matches of the last two finalists. Argentina can't allow a defeat to Croatia, while for Germany it's a must win because they could be as good as out even with a draw against Sweden. I can imagine a boring draw between Mexico and Sweden in the last round if Germany won't beat the Swedes.
Then we have a knockout match between Switzerland and Serbia, and 4-5 solid teams like Peru, Colombia etc playing for their lives. Can't wait :weee:

Oh, and I'll be in Munich this weekend. The best place to be if Germany won't beat Sweden on Saturday. Muller tears, mmmmmmmm

there's no such thing, right? :baus:

btw i mentioned that denmark team as an exception. i saw the '86 hammering of uruguay live, and i was quite amazed by laudrup and elkjaer larsen. too bad most scandinavian teams can't reach that level at all. even when norway were 2nd on the rankings, they played a mostly physical, rough, not too fun type of game.

Memory could be betraying me, but I think Sweden in 1994 played some sexy football. I was only 7 in '86 and I only remember Maradona and Socrates, but I do remember M. Laudrup in the NT, perhaps from some later tournaments.

Did you know that if Saudi Arabia beats Uruguay, by beating Spain tomorrow we will be the first team that qualifies? :weee:

they wasn't bad at all, they had dahlin  and brolin. i always hoped juve would sign dahlin. they had a really easy draw though, and that probably made them look better. :boh:

@piotrr

i've just seen woj's post match interview, and he mentioned that the second goal was due to an injured player suddenly appearing on the pitch. is there any discussion about it in poland? according the replay i've seen, the ref waved niang to return to the pitch the moment krychowiak passed the ball back, so it was unfortunate.
I've turned everything off after the game so can't really say. :D From what i can see now it's mentioned here and there that the referee should never allow the player to come in like that but it's not the main topic in the news.

Poland, why yuo not stronk? :(
Because players like Milik, Krychowiak, Piszczek are useless and done as footballers but our great coach thinks otherwise.

edit: oh and he took a guy like Sławomir Peszko who is literally there only to help with the atmosphere .

Cheap Southern European restaurants. Man, I miss that in Belgium. I'd eat out every day.

Tell me about it man.

I just couldn't believe how cheap it was to eat at good restaurants in Italy and Spain. Standard prices at good restaurants are almost triple the price in Dubai. I only went to Brussels in Belgium, but it was expensive as hell too. Southern European restaurants

Uruguay would be a good test to see where Russia stand in terms of their knockout prospects. Wont be surprised at all to see them eek out a draw atleast and top the group.

Seems its increasingly shaping up towards a Portugal-Russia Ro16 tie. With some luck and ref favors, they can knock Portugal out IMO
