Come on tuz, Deschamps got them to the final (again) without having a game where France wasnt where they want to be at the hour mark, but hes a shit coach because he plays Giroud or the team could be playing better? Where was all this talk about French being head and shoulders above everyone else before the tournament, you sure its not just a coping mechanism?

I don’t disagree but if Belgian players were in France’s position I think you’d understand more. Winning is what matters and players have to do all they can to get the result. Mbappe and so sacrificed yellow cards and possibly not playing in the final for the W. Not saying it deserves applause but it’s what had to be done.
No. If Belgium were winning, they would have kept going for the second, third and possibly even fourth goal becasue they are so fun to watch unlike those cowards called France who are ruining this game for us.

Btw, I just woke up this morning feeling empty inside. I guess this elimination really got to me. I can't wait for next Saturday though. Getting to third placeis still an honor with this squad and that pathetic coach. The only thing I admire of him is he doesn't like time-wasting, at all, so go Martinez on that!

How did Roberto Martinez end up coach of a team like Belgium in the first place? I honestly assumed it was just someone with the same name and not the person I was thinking of until I saw him shortly before the World Cup started.

I remember that guy from his time on ESPN commentary. Was a dumb cunt.

Belgium have a world class team if they should cough up for a decent coach.

:lol2:

Quoted for truth. But then you have to remember what Belgium started with. Like Wilmots, whose greatest legacy is a period with Sint-Truidense V.V. Or Thierry Henri, who found a way to go to the World Cup without an intentional handball.

Why didn't they take Lacazette? He couldn't be worse could he?
unless he's injured.
Or even -- and I hate to applaud Manchowder United waste products - Martial or even Payet. Giroud is like a reverse Ronaldo: defenders know they don't need to mark him, giving them a man advantage.

I don't get why people say this world cup is boring, I think it's quite nice, apart from watching Denmark-France and some lower quality teams from strange regions I don't think I've been bored at all and I've watched most of the 62 games so far.

Sad thing is that when he played for Monaco i actually was glad there was finally a young star that has a brain and is not into diving etc.
You play with Neymar, you suffer IQ drop it seems.

No, I fully understand. It's the natural thing to do. The rules force you to do it. Of the 6 minutes of extra time last night, the ball was in play for little under a minute. Obviously the French are going to waste time. And they're really good at it too.

But it's so far removed from everything sport is about. Sport is about testing your body. It's about running fast, jumping high, being strong, being skilled. Football is evolving into a sport where all of that is of secondary importance.

And it's not just at the World Cup. It's every game all season long. And every team on every level does it. You have veterans teams do it. Football is supposed to help them keep their heart rate up and keep them fit. It doesn't do that when they're time wasting.

And the solution to it is very easy. I'm convinced that at some point we will have the clock stopped, because so many games have become unbearable to watch. And in the end, it is all about the spectacle. UEFA have realised this a long time ago with the Champions League.

Martinez is a horrible coach. A fraud if you ask me. I guess he bullshits his way to getting a job.

First round was okay, but the knockout phase has been pure shit. I can't think of four interesting knockout games.

before the tournament:
Deschamps fucked up again [with his team selection]
It could have looked much better. Odd choices.
DD already screwed up the Euro due to his choices mostly, now hes gonna do the same at the WC
before the final:
Giroud sucks  cant believe how lucky DD is, so incompetent yet will reach the WC final due to his squad being so talented and the rest of the top teams so lame.
Matuidi is bossing today tho. dominating Nainggolan less lolgians
Deschamps :touched:
great coach tho, got them to the final. has nothing to do with them being twice as good and twice as athletically superior as all their opponents so far
i just cant believe he screws up an immensely talented generation for 2 tournaments in a row and gets away with it. bring Zidane in already!!!
Yep.

France have got the most talented squad in the world and this is how they play. And some of you even admire it.

You'd have to be a lunatic imo.

Nevertheless they are a just world champion. Because they are still the best team. Even if Deschamps is intent on taking all the joy out of football.
I wonder what happens after France win the final, surely the Didier hate will only intensify :D

I can't think of a knockout game that hasn't been interesting, even though I've obviously missed one or two. Guess it's just a matter of taste, I enjoy watching teams trying to win, looks like you enjoy fanciness

With their players France could have been one of the best teams of all time. They will win the World Cup now, but they'll also be forgotten very soon. I definitely understand the Didier hate tbh. But he is as a coach what he is as a man. A stubborn, nasty little dude.

But, and no one can deny this imo, he did turn France into a winning machine.

Both Croatia games. Switzerland-Sweden. England-Colombia. Uruguay-France. Brazil-Mexico. Spain-Russia. England-Sweden.

They we're all horrendous.

No one in their right mind can call those interesting.

The World Cup isn't designed for neutrals, although a lot do get enjoyment from it.

Esp. with the expansion, the tournament is designed to engage the nationals of the teams taking part in each respective game. Probably the Spanish, Swiss, Swedes, English etc were invested in those games.

And of course, money and influence talks, so I doubt we'll get a 'stop the clock' unless the FA's of Italy, Germany, France, England, Spain and Brazil push for it. As proponents of a bit of time-wasting, can't see it happening.

The UEFA will push for it at some point.

They make every effort to design the CL to be as attractive as possible. Refs are much much stricter towards time wasting too. And they're right, because that's where the money is.

Big teams will call for it too, because it makes the game more predictable. Had France faced Uruguay with Cavani, they might have gone out, because their approach is similar.

The expansion is an awful idea of course and it will backfire.

it's not like time-wasting is the only reason for players lying on the ground, it also works for trying to milk a card, giving your teammates a pause to breathe or break up the rhythm of the game if opponent has been living in your half for too long. highly doubt stop clock would make football more watchable, maybe a bit more fair. still, that change is too major, flowing time is one of the key concepts of football

The 2010 WC was so cagey it was boring except for the rare moment of a possible goal. That Cup was tighter than Busquets' vagina.

It's a little better this time around, and the unpredictability has been great. But cagey matches are still the norm... which especially happens in elimination play.

Of course it's not the only reason. But it's a major one. Stopping the clock really is the answer.

Or, alternatively, straight red cards for time wasting. Mbappe yesterday should have been a straight red. Make players who do this miss finals.
